Hi there
I'm beside myself please help if you have any insight. I'm 8 weeks pregnant.. second pregnancy through IVF.
Today I had some bleeding on a panty liner and when wiping. I rang the emergency unit in the maternity hospital and they told me just to monitor bleeding and if continues come in to be checked out but nobody available to scan in there today as it is a Saturday. Was told what i would need is a scan but cant promise one today.. wonderful health system we have eh. What could it be? I'm really hoping a thing of nothing I'm trying to be calm 😩

Hi @AllIsGoodMyGirl are you on pessaries at all with you having IVF? I'm on my third pregnancy, for a second child at 9 weeks from a fresh transfer and I've had a lot of spotting and a few bouts of bleeding. One was much worse than what you have pictured at about 6 weeks, where I soaked through my underwear, pj's and had clots. It was dripping fresh into the loo 😔 I've had three scans already because of this and all is well with baby. I even asked them to do a pelvic exam as I was so worried. They think the pessaries are causing my cervix to bleed as it's so sensitive and vascular, so I wonder if it could be similar for you? Also do you have any cramps or pains, or is it just the bleeding? I have my fingers crossed all is well for you x

Some bleeding can be considered 'normal' especially this early on! Have you got any cramps? They say as long as you don't have both then usually it's nothing to worry about. I had this at around 6-7 weeks, if that helps. Fingers crossed for you and sending you a hug! I know the wait is agonising!

@Zeeha thank you for your reply. Huge congratulations to you! It's not an easy road but so worth it. I've been on edge all day it's my first time writing on a forum like this I had to cave in and do it! I'm glad everything is going well for you. I had a severe bleed on pregnancy 1 with a SCH. I just had first scan on Thursday and everything was perfect so I'm holding onto that. Yes I am on utrogestan pessaries inserted with an applicator. This is my 6th week on them could they cause irritation now if they haven't before?

@Shahhhh thank you for your reply. It's so worrying to see any red 🙈 I don't have cramps just probably a little achy in the back. I've been trying to focus all day whether I do or don't but no I think I'm good. I'm booked in for another scan on Wednesday but it's just the dread of looking down each time!

@Zeeha also I just used an applicator to insert two more pessaries and it was brown rather than red which I'm assuming is old blood.

@AllIsGoodMyGirl thank you so much. My pessaries are utrogestan too. Yes I'd been on them before and not had bleeding. As your pregnancy continues your cervix becomes more vascular. The clinic and the EPU recommended not using the applicators. Since stopping using them the bleeding I have is less frequent. I try to not put the pessaries in too far as well, but then just lay down for 20 minutes to give them time to absorb. Yes brown blood now is a good sign. I suspect and truly hope your cervix may have just been slightly irritated and now it's resolved itself. I would ask EPU to book you in for the first scan slot they have available for reassurance if they're willing to. Please let us know how you get on 🤗

AllIsGoodMyGirl · 05/10/2024 19:37

@Zeeha thank you so much. You've put my mind alot more at ease! I began using the applicators 3 weeks ago as I felt I was nearly turning myself inside out putting them in 😂🙈 I will stop using them from the morning now I will try anything! The earliest they had available for a scan in EPU is Wednesday so I am booked in for that! Here's hoping I don't see any other colour for the weekend! I will be sure to keep in touch. Thank you again!

@AllIsGoodMyGirl you're very welcome. I hope the scan goes well on Wednesday and you can distract your mind until then! Feel free to message me any time. Take care x

AllIsGoodMyGirl · 10/10/2024 19:47

@Zeeha @Shahhhh I am so glad to let ye know that at the scan yesterday everything was okay! Got to see a little heartbeat, no explanation what caused the bleeding really hoping won't happen again! Thanks for yer help x

@AllIsGoodMyGirl that's fantastic news! So glad the scan went well for you.

My spotting has all but disappeared thankfully but when I had a scan on Monday they found a subchronic hemotoma near my cervix. It's not been picked up on the three earlier scans I had but they said they can come and go, so that may be an explanation to the heavy bleeding I've had at times! I have another scan a week on Monday to monitor the size, so I'm taking it very easy now and enjoying the laziness ☺️

AllIsGoodMyGirl · 13/10/2024 09:10

Hi @Zeeha
Definitely this requires you to really mind yourself and take it easy! I didn't realise actually that a SCH can come and go. I had a severe bleed last pregnancy with one and no sign of one so far that's not to say it won't appear! How are you feeling now? Already looking forward to my next scan to make sure everything is okay

@AllIsGoodMyGirl it's so hard to take it easy when my daughter has just got to the walking stage. Trying my best though! Oh wow. I didn't realise how common they are. I haven't had any spotting in over a week now, when before it stopped it was almost constant but light, so it's nice to not have that constant worry. I'm trusting that it's a good sign anyway! When's your next scan? I've got just over a week to wait. I think I'll be far less anxious when I get to the stage of feeling them move, as then I'll have more of an idea how they're doing x

AllIsGoodMyGirl · 15/10/2024 17:29

@Zeeha oh I'm there with ya my little one is beginning on the move too!!! Not a minute to sit down after a day's work! I'm meeting doc on Friday and hoping I will get a scan too. They say you're more prone to SCH after IVF possibly to do with the procedure of transfer? I said in my last pregnancy I can't wait to have th feeling of movement stage but ya know when I couldn't feel it then the anxiety crept in! Our babies are so worth it but it's so tough then too just to trust that everything will be okay! I'm sure not having the bleeding on the daily must be a big relief to you! The days seek long waiting to check if everything is okay each time
