7 weeks and bleeding

This morning I had some pink spotting when I wiped since then I’ve wiped and some times there’s been nothing and some times a tiny little clot with pink blood, I’ve no pain or cramping. Currently 7 weeks pregnant, could this just be normal or should I be worried?

They say if it's bleeding on its own (not heavy) and there are no cramps, it's usually nothing to worry about. You could contact your local EPU and they should be able to get you in for an early scan!

Superscientist · 04/10/2024 11:48

When I had bleeding I read that 2 out of 3 women with bleeding have a normal pregnancy, only 1 in 3 miscarry.
It's good that it's only when you wipe. I would reach out to the epu. I started bleeding at 10 weeks unfortunately for me it did end in miscarriage. I started with spotting I phoned out of hours who said to keep an eye on whether it was getting heavier and to phone the epu the next day. They got me in for a scan the day after I called. Sadly for me I had heavy bleeding with clots in the meantime and lost the pregnancy. I went to a and E when I had the heavy bleeding and they measured my haemoglobin and HCG. At the epu the following day they repeated my HCG levels which had halved in 18h and did an internal scan. If I had been earlier than 10 weeks rather than diagnosing miscarriage they may have diagnosed pregnancy of unknown origin as this was my first scan and repeated the scan a week later.

Give the epu a call and go from there. I had no idea what to expect at the epu so I thought I would share the logistics of what happened for me.

Did your bleeding start heavy or light?

Did your bleeding start heavy or light?

Light period for an hour or two at 7pm. I put a pad on and there was a little blood on it over the course of 2-3h. I was told to change my pad every hour but I didn't as it was lightly used I would have been able to tell if it was getting heavier. I had barely anything overnight then light to normal period from lunchtime the following day and very heavy period in the afternoon.

I’ve had a pad on all day and nothing on it whatsoever, and it seems to not be there when I wipe now. Hoping it’s what they call a hormonal bleed, been told that no need to worry unless heavy with clots and pain or cramping. So fingers crossed 🤞🏼

That's real promising. Try to stay distracted and occupied. Do reach out for help again if it starts again.
I felt a bit silly going to a and E but they were lovely and saw me quickly. There was a 4-5h wait when we arrived but I was triaged quickly and had bloods done and was heading home in 45 minutes.
They were going to do a urine sample to check for a UTI as a cause of the blood but because of how heavy it was they said they didn't need to. It might be worth keeping an eye out for UTI symptoms

Have you had your booking appointment yet?

ThatKookyDreamer · 04/10/2024 14:58

No my booking appointment is a week on Monday, will definitely let the midwife know that this has happened though

Fingers crossed for you too! Have you any pain with it?

Unfortunately I do have cramping quite badly. Started Friday evening and spotting on and off since then, pink and brown. Heartbeat seen at 6w3d, just a waiting game now.

Ok it's good you have your booking appointment soon. They will do a urine sample. Do go back if you are concerned or see if the midwife can see you soonee

Margaretschlege · 09/10/2024 13:08

How are you getting on?

It's good news. Progesterone stopped the bleeding completely after my last messages and still a heartbeat. Nausea and vomiting have increased. How about you?

TheShellBeach · 14/10/2024 17:33

I had bleeding at this stage and was really worried, but the pregnancy carried on and I had a healthy baby at the end.

Wishing you both well.

I just wanted to update because I know I was always looking for updates when scouring Mum's net. Baby seems fine and I got my NIPT results back today x

@ThatKookyDreamer
Hey have you got any updates on your scan? I'm currently going through what you went through and have an early scan tomorrow afternoon at the hospital I'm so worried

Hi @Butterflygirl23 I’m so sorry you’re going through the same thing. Sadly for me it was the worst case scenario and baby had stopped growing. We waited another week and again no growth so I was diagnosed with a missed miscarriage and had to have surgery to remove the pregnancy.
I really hope this isn’t the situation for you, I had the operation last Thursday and still recovering physically, emotionally and mentally it’s really hit me hard and I’m not really sure how to move on from it yet.
really couldn’t fault the nhs and getting us in and seen to, they offered us so much care and attention and without them the experience would of been so much worse.

@ThatKookyDreamer
Aww I'm so sorry to hear that sending my well wishes
Well I started bleeding at 5 weeks but epu wasn't worried because I wasn't filling pads etc but I put it down to a miscarriage but I took a pregnancy test 2 weeks after the bleeding started and was blazing positive and my CB digital said 2-3 and when I found out it said 1-2 so my hcg have gone up but I just don't know! I've said I don't feel pregnant but the last day or so my boobs keep twinging and I feel sick but I feel completely different from my first pregnancy. So I'm not feeling hopeful
So I rang epu when I got the positive and she said she'll still not concerned because I haven't bled since but I started brown discharge yesterday morning then turned to pink spotting throughout the day stopping occasionally, hasn't leaked or anything so rang them back and she's got me an emergency scan this afternoon but I know they'll be nothing there
