Doula / C Section

Due to a pretty awful first birth we are considering a doula for our second. I'm currently researching those in the area and reaching out to a few but one question I have (and I will ask them but just keen to know what the "norm" is)...

If I book one months in advance, then for whatever reason the baby ends up needing to be delivered by a planned section with some notice, do you still have to pay the full price etc? Honestly in that situation I wouldn't really want a doula for the section itself - it's more if I have a vaginal birth as it was a mess from start to finish last time.

Can you just say you no longer require their services and pay the deposit or would you need to pay up the full amount? I guess they have blocked the time out either way...

I haven’t used a doula but is it worth just messaging a few to enquire? I would guess it may depend how far in advance you know about planned C-section; as further in advance they could take another client. I always wonder how doulas manage clients given it’s such a big window that a baby could arrive!

From what I understand about Doulas (but never used one) its really not just about being present at the birth - they work with you before and after birth too. I'd maybe ask what they offer as part of their services more generally, and decide if other aspects of support are important to you
