Think I'm pregnant but got negative result...

Hi there,

Just wanted to check, it is possible to get a negative test result because it's too early to detect the hormone, isn't it? I had an early miscarriage last summer but didn't try again straightaway as we were about to relocate. Have been trying for 4 months, and my period is 3 days late and I have sore breasts and can't stop weeing. I am normally very regular; after my periods started again after the miscarriage they have been either 29 or 30 days apart. I did a Clearblue test last night though and it was negative. Is it possible to feel pregnant and stop your own period by wanting to be pregnant?

Anyone's experiences/knowledge would be very welcome. I was thinking of testing again in a few more days. I suppose I'm a bit worried in case there's something wrong.

Cheers! xx

Test again in a week's time if you haven't had your period by then. This time I didn't get a + result until I was six weeks pregnant even though I suspected long before (because of the weeing all the time and I also suddenly felt hungover when I had no reason to!) Good luck

It happened with my dd , I think I must have ovulated a lot later and dates were out. Though I must admit I had quite a few false alrms with ds - periods 3 or 4 days late,Wait until the weekend if you can to test again. Really hard to think about anything else I know. Good luck

I was 9 days late before I got a positive test, so yes it is very possible.

Do you have any idea of when you ovulated? That could give us a clue.

Other than that wait a couple of days, and do the test (First Response would probably be your best bet) and do the test using the urine from your first wee of the day.

Good luck, it is looking hopeful

Thanks... I'll wait as long as I can and then do it first thing. Is it worth going to the docs if I do another test and it's negative and still no period?

I hate this!

Def possible to psychologically stop your period. Mine was 5 days late in december (unheard of) and i wasn't preg...but the good news was I conceived the next month...TBH every pos test I have ever had has been on or before period due date, but that doesn't mean it's impossible! Good luck xxx

I'd probably wait till period was 2 weeks late before going to GP.

But if you worried then go sooner.

MsG · 22/04/2008 15:41

No need to wonder anymore - I just started. I've never had such a long time between periods. Goodness knows how I'm going to work it out now, when I'm fertile etc.

I found 'first response' to be anything but... Clear Blue gave me a positive reading long before First Response did

NatalieJane · 22/04/2008 17:15

Oh so sorry MsG It may just be a one off long cycle.

Really Becky? I am quite surprised at that, everyone I have ever spoken about it with has always got a BFP with FR first!

YouCantTeuchThis · 22/04/2008 17:22

Sorry MsG .

The advertised sensitivity of clearblue is only half of FR (so you need twice as much HcG) but there are a few instances of them being very, very sensitive. I just wouldn't rely on it.

NatalieJane · 22/04/2008 17:26

I was reading on POAS.co.uk earlier, the lab results on FR's, some were detecting as little as 4.5 HCG! It didn't show the lab results from CB, (but then I was neither looking for it, or that interested TBH!)
