Panicking after an early scan

Hi everyone. I had fresh red blood and had to go to my clinic for an early scan. Works out at 5 weeks 3 days (Ivf pregnancy so I’m sure of my dates).
all we could see was a sac and a slight line which they said is the yolk - I can barely make it out. I’ve been so down since. Has anyone had a similar experience.

Don't quote me on this, but this sounds fine to me! It's super early. You'll be able to see/hear a heartbeat at over 6 weeks. I hope everything goes smooth for you! Best of luck, OP!

Sorry you’ve had a scare. Having experienced bleeding throughout pregnancies in the past, I’d be guided by what doctors have told you, did they give you any reassurance? From my own scans in the past I had some very early ones which would have been similar times to yours which showed what you describe. Fingers crossed for you

That sounds absolutely normal for 5 weeks.
A scan this early is more to make sure the sac is developing in the right place (not ectopic) than anything else. You can't tell if it's a viable pregnancy at this stage - the embryo and hopefully heartbeat can normally be seen between 6 and 7 weeks.

I had a scan which measured at 5+3 last week and could only see the sac and yolk too, they reassured me this was fine and asked me to go back later this week to ensure progression although I think that’s because my dates were way out.

did they book you for a rescan? Sending lots of love

You won't see anything until at least 7 weeks so hang in there and maybe even book a private scan for the end of week 7 ?

my Dr keeps reassuring me it’s okay and he’s said I can come back for a scan on Thursday. I think it’s the spotting of red blood that really threw me off!

Thanks Snowdrops. Yes my Dr said I can come back for a scan in the next few days. I think the red spotting got me super anxious!

I'm 19 weeks today with my 'there's only a sac and yolk sac no baby I'm so sorry' pregnancy. I was utterly heartbroken after battling infertility for 4 years when I naturally fell pregnant after nothing working for us. I was actually 5w5 when this happened too! I went back at 6w4 and his heartbeat was there and my pregnancy is going perfectly so far. I know how anxious you are right now but please hold hope it's very common to only see that this early. Also I see it's very common to bleed early on with IVF pregnancy's from the mum to be group I'm in. Wishing you luck🤍
