3rd trimester bleeding - weirded out by hospital's approach to this?

I'm 36 weeks and got admitted last night for fresh red bleeding and period-like cramps. The baby movements and traces are good and both the bleeding and cramping eased off overnight (but still happening a little). The consultant came to see me and said they can't tell anything from an ultrasound so there's no point in that, they will monitor me for longer and if I have 24 hours with no bleeding then I will be discharged. But every single person I've spoken to since I've been in, I've asked what could be causing the bleeding? And they say don't know, there are lots of reasons I could be bleeding but they don't specify any. And just if the bleeding stops I can go. That makes me very nervous to go home tbh because if they haven't figured out a reason then how do they know something awful isn't happening and it won't start happening again? I don't understand the lack of curiosity about the reason for the bleeding and how it can possibly be fine to discharge me without knowing.

I've no experience of this, but I would have assumed that bleeding in the third trimester wasn't typical and would need investigation / monitoring? I would be anxious in your position also and wanting more answers.

This happened to me and I was dismissed by the hospital- my waters went 48 hours later still no idea what caused the bleed guessing it was my show
