Hi All
Wondering if anyone at all can share a similar experience with GD and ICP? I’ve not seen many threads where someone has been diagnosed with both Gestational Diabetes and intrahepatic cholestasis?
Last week at 34 weeks I found out I have gestational diabetes and also ICP (I had symptoms of both which is why I was tested)

I have my diabetic appointment in a couple of days, along with repeat weekly bloods for the ICP to review how they levels have changed etc and then I am seeing consultant in a week at 36 weeks.

I have my C-section booked for 39 weeks already (unrelated this is due to 2 previous sections)

my question is did anyone else have to move their section forward due to these conditions? And if so why?
trying to remain level headed just feel like a double whammy with having both 😫

I was diagnosed with both at 26 weeks.

I had my baby at 39 weeks with no issues but had weekly blood tests to check my bile acids and my antenatal care was excellent.

I was on metformin from diagnosis with GD but my blood sugars were fairly stable thankfully.

Have they given you a plan?

Thanks so much for replying and so good to hear you were able to go to 39 weeks too.

No plan yet I was told I had both conditions, and then I was booked an appointment with diabetic midwife for this Tuesday but I’ve had to research it all myself diet etc because I didn’t want to make it worse and then I was told I have repeat bloods Wednesday to review levels in my blood for ICP.

hoping I’ll know more after Tuesday fingers crossed

did they say why they put you straight on metformin?

My blood sugars were over 10 after my GTT so qualified for metformin.

They gave me insulin as they presumed I would need it before the end of my pregnancy - but I was pretty well controlled so didn't need it thankfully!

Drinking lots of water and pairing foods worked effectively for me I hope. I also found that the metformin suppressed my appetite so I wasn't really craving food and didn't feel too depressed. I did pack two packets of biscuits for hospital though!

That’s really good then that you never needed the insulin, Mine was 9.5 so I shall see what they say on Tuesday and whether they think It can be controlled through diet, not sure what the cut off is. I’m sort of glad it's only started near the end so only 4 weeks diet wise 😂
yeh I saw about pairing foods thank you.
