Entitled to maternity allowance

I’m feeling very vulnerable. I found out yesterday that I’m pregnant and the timing could not be worse. Due date around mid May, currently finishing studies, due to start working full time in May 2025. I’m not entitled to maternity pay, but I’m trying to work out whether I could be entitled to Mat allowance.

I had a full time job for 13 weeks earlier this year, they fall within the eligibility period of 66 weeks prior to the due date. I earned ~£1800/month. I think the 26 weeks that you must work in those 66 don’t have to be consecutive or for the same employer, so in theory, if I got a part time job at my university for another 13 weeks before my due date, even if it’s a low paid job… I should qualify for mat allowance?

Does anyone know where I can get advice on this? I don’t think it’s easy to get an appointment or a phone call with citizens’ advice in my area. Is there a solicitor that specialises in this? I need answers asap.

Pregnant and screwed may be able to help, give them a Google.

Good luck, it does sound like that will be OK based on my limited knowledge.
