5 weeks symptoms come and go

5 weeks with my first pregnancy. Had really sensitive nipples and lots of white vaginal discharge, but today I’ve woken up and all morning no discharge and my nipples don’t feel sore or sensitive anymore?? Starting to worry not feeling symptoms but hoping that symptoms coming and going at this stage is normal. Not sure what to expect and praying all is well. Anybody experience similar?

Yes this is completely normal for symptoms to come and go throughout the first trimester. I'm 14 weeks now and didn't even start getting symptoms until i was around 6 weeks.
I've since had weeks where I feel like I've been hit with a truck then others where I don't even feel pregnant. It's totally normal and doesn't have any bearing on if it will be a viable pregnancy or not.
Good luck

Thank you so much for the response! This puts me at ease. I’d read that the breast tenderness was normal to come and go, think I’ve just been so worried about the discharge because I was silly and googled and people saying this happened to them before a loss and I usually get dry before a period. So having the sudden loss of discharge because I have been having a lot really has worried me. I’ve felt fine and completely normal in myself. I’ve got a private scan booked for next week when I’ll be 6 weeks and then will get another at 8 weeks if it’s too early then to detect heartbeat. Think I’m just finding everything very new and not sure what to expect, just praying all is well. Hope your pregnancy goes well!!! Congrats.

Don't worry about symptoms coming and going. It's normal for this to happen.

The NHS will scan you at 12 weeks.

Very normal, my symptoms varied throughout. And honestly I’d wait until you’re 8 weeks to get a scan. Any decent private scan places shouldn’t scan earlier than that. A scan at 6 weeks is likely to cause more angst than reassurance, as it’s very common to measure behind and it’s borderline for seeing heartbeat

Thanks so much! Tbh I was also thinking this but my husband booked a 2x early scan package at a private clinic near us because I’d been so anxious so he’s already booked the first for 6 weeks, but they did advise that a heartbeat may not be detectable then and that they’d book the second scan for 8 weeks onwards so that it’s more reliable. I’ll have a chat with him tonight and a think and then may cancel the 6 week one if I think it’s going to cause me anxiety.

Hey @carsty congratulations on your pregnancy!!! Nice to meet somebody in the same stage as me. Mine has increased back up again today and my sore boobs have come back! I spoke to my friend who is a midwife and she said that symptoms coming and going is very normal so don’t worry. I also spoke to some friends about the discharge and they said there’s was also up and down and became consistently increased as they got later into pregnancies, so don’t worry at all (I know easier said than done cos otherwise I wouldn’t have made this thread lol), but I think speaking to others gives a lot of reassurance so just incase you are still worried x

I’d personally wait and have the first one closer to 8 weeks. I had NHS scan at 6 weeks due to bleeding, then a private one at 8 weeks, and the difference in what you can see is pretty surprising

Oh wow I didn’t realise this! Hope everything was ok despite the bleeding? Did you get a heartbeat at 6 weeks or only on the 8 week mark?

You will see so much more at 8 weeks + than you would at 6 weeks.

6 weeks there is no guarantee you will see anything and, even if you do, weeks 6-8 are quite high risk in pregnancy so still very stressful whether you've had a scan or not.
If you have a successful scan with heartbeat after week 8, not only is there a lot more to see, but also your odds of miscarriage drop significantly.

yes all fine - due next week! There was a heartbeat, I think I was about 6 weeks plus 3/4 days. I wouldn’t have had a private scan that early though. If you wait til 8 weeks, a scan can be more reassuring as if there’s a heartbeat at that stage and growth is good, the miscarriage likelihood is greatly reduced. Although I’m pregnant after a miscarriage so i never found the scans reassuring TBH.

bethanye99 · 13/10/2024 12:53

Just an update - I went for the 6 week scan as my husband had already paid and booked for it as it came as a package of 2, so I’ve got another scan in 2 weeks when I’ll be 9 weeks. There was a beautiful heartbeat and baby looked well! Obviously didn’t see much as baby was so small, but when I go back I’ll see more. Currently got flu like virus at the moment so resting in bed.
hope your delivery went well and that you and baby are ok? @Peonies12
