Help, very confused!

Hello everyone,

I am posting in hope that someone may be able to help in my predicament as I am very confused.

I am finally pregnant after 1 miscarriage and 3.5 years of trying. I would say I have had some symptoms light nausea, hunger, food aversions, mood swings, constantly burping etc but as I have been under the care of a fertility doctor he said I should get an early scan.

On Tuesday I went, and I was told I am 6.4 weeks when (if i take the first day of my last period ) i should be 8 weeks, he said he couldn't see a fetal pole and i should prepare for a miscarriage. I have a tilted uterus if thats relevant. He has taken me off all progesterone and blood thinner injections which to be honest I wasn't sure i needed in the 1st place.

I am really really confused because, I was obviously not pregnant on my period, i am unsure exactly when i conceived but i have a rough idea which would take me to about 6 weeks. I am so confused and really do not know what to do??

Really appreciate any help because I am going out of my mind. xx

Pregnancy is counted back to the first day of your last period for everyone. So even if your conception date was for example the 15th of August, your pregnancy would be dated from 1st August.

I'm sorry that this wasn't explained to you properly. It doesn't sound like great news at the moment. I hope you have people to support you through it.

Do you have to go back for another scan?

Hi,

Thank you for your response, I was told to just wait and see what happens.

Hi OP, it all sounds very stressful. I am currently pregnant after 4 years so I know how heartbreaking the TTC journey can be.

I also measured behind. I went for a scan at '8 weeks' according to LMP but only measured 6+2 so 12 days difference. I had fully expected this though as I have long cycles and I knew I had ovulated late. I'm now 14 weeks and everything is looking good so far (still consistently measuring 10-12 days behind at every scan)
The LMP is simply a starting point for all women and is based on an average 28 day cycle with ovulation on day 14, it's not accurate for everyone.

So the measuring behind isn't necessarily a bad thing unless you know exactly when you ovulated and that you should definitely be 8 weeks.

What is slightly concerning at 6+4 is that there wasn't a fetal pole. In both my pregnancies at 6 weeks I could see everything including embryo and heartbeat. There are exceptions of course but I would be mentally preparing incase the doctor is right and it's a MC.

i really do hope not OP, sending hugs

@sel2223 congratulations on your pregnancy ❤️

yes so stressful! I have known some people to see a fetal pole at 9 weeks but as always in this cruel journey of infertility, I am preparing myself for the worst and hoping for the best.

it’s very annoying as I still have lots of symptoms but I know that it can take a while for the body to pick up, I am just hoping that if it is the worst my body picks it up quickly as it did last time now that I’m off all the progesterone.

thank you so much for your input though, it’s given me a least something to work off.

wishing you all the best with your baby ❤️

Just wanted to say that my mother had a tilted uterus and carried three healthy children to term. After her first was born, her uterus actually "corrected" itself and ever since her periods were much less debilitating.

Sorry you're going through this - I'd say it could go either way for you; there's nothing for it but to wait and see 🌸

Teddybear786 · 26/09/2024 16:20

@Whydoeslifesuck thank you! I didn’t realise that the cause of my bad periods might be due to my tilted uterus. Thank you for your words of support..just a waiting game I guess!
