When did you decorate the nursery ?

DC3 is due in August and we have a new cot ready and waiting - trouble is it's sitting around in the spare room in boxes and is getting right on my nerves.

I want it up and out of the boxes but that means we would have to decorate the room before putting the cot up which isn't a problem, just thinking it's too soon maybe.

We had DD1's nursery all kitted out by now but DD2 didn't get to have a freshly decorated nursery so feel a bit out of touch.

What did you do ?

DH and his brother were pulling down the nursery ceiling when ds was 3 weeks old...

MrsMattie · 21/04/2008 14:19

We didn't decorate a 'nursery' - the room already had decent painted walls and carpet. Also, we had DS in our room with us until he was 7 mths old, so there was no big rush to sort things out...

FoghornLeghorn · 21/04/2008 14:23

There's no big rush but there are big boxes just sat around and they are getting right on my nerves.
It's not going to be all decorated, I lterally just mean a lick of white paint to cover the glittery fairies from DD2 and putting the cot up so it doesn't look like a bomb site !

Not done it yet; DD is 4 months old, sleeps in our room. The designated room is our home-office, assorted crap room - far too useful in current format!

Becky77 · 21/04/2008 14:31

Ours will be finished next week... I'm 33 weeks now! The cot is already up in our room though and has been for a couple of weeks

newgirl · 21/04/2008 14:32

when she was 1 - then we chose things (well i did!) that suited her

ShowOfHands · 21/04/2008 14:34

DD is 11 months old. I might do it for her first birthday. Then again I might not.

CaptainKarvol · 21/04/2008 14:37

about 2 years before DS was born - it was called 'the study' then. It was fairly neutral, so we just moved the cot and change unit in there, and the desk out. Think we did the furniture bit after he was born - he was in a moses basket in our room, then a crib in our room, for 6 months.

FoghornLeghorn · 21/04/2008 14:37

We were the same with DD2, she was in our room for ages and then we decorated when she moved into her own room but the boxes are driving me mad I tell you and if I stub my toe once more I'm likely to commit murder !!!

I did mine while I could still paint. Think I was about 30 weeks.

slinkiemalinki · 21/04/2008 14:39

My daughter's two in a couple of weeks - her cot is at the end of the double bed in the spare room - ah, good old London life... we didn't want to change things as we need a guest room and always planned to sell/rent it out.
We are moving in December and she and her new sibling will eventually get the personalised rooms I have longed to decorate! White company here I come...

TheDevilWearsPenneys · 21/04/2008 14:43

Just paint it in an off white and put everything in there, not necessarily arranged but 'ready'.

Ambi · 21/04/2008 14:43

at about 35 weeks, I was ever so good at starting it but kept losing interest. I'm glad we did it before though as we had loads of clothes to put away and LO was only in our room for 3 weeks before her noisy sleeping was driving me insane.

FoghornLeghorn · 21/04/2008 14:45

That is my thoughts Devil - I'm not buying bedding, borders, curtains etc as I learnt that lesson with DD1, I chose all nuetrals then hated it when she born ! I just want somewhere to put clothes, nappies etc and to get the humungous boxes out of the way !

a lovely dear friend of mine decorated the baby room with pink rose buds and then of course had two boys..! of course it shouldnt matter but not ideal

LizSpain · 23/04/2008 14:33

I waited until I was 20 weeks then decided it was time to get stuck in but didn't actually do anything until about 3 weeks ago & i'm now 37 weeks! Lol!!! I know what you mean about boxes though foghorn they were driving me mad too!

I haven't decorated his room as such either have left it magnolia but i've been off work a while with sciatica so decided to get some blank canvass & some paints & get creative! I'm not a great artist but copied some cartoons of a lion, giraffe & elephant from a border design & it only cost me 10 pound!

jingleyjen · 23/04/2008 14:34

after 20 week scan for DS1 about 30 weeks with DS2

lollipopmother · 23/04/2008 14:49

I've just painted ours, I was 20 weeks. We have the furniture all in boxes like you, it won't go up for another couple of months just because otherwise I don't think I'll ever leave the room, it'll look too bloody cute!

chunkypudding · 23/04/2008 18:15

still haven't... ds 14 weeks today

muppetgirl · 23/04/2008 18:19

we didn't with both our ds's. Ds 1 is now 4 and won't let me paint his room. We were lucky he agreed to new bedding with blind and bunting but as for paint? Forget it. Ds 2 got wooden characters stuck on his walls and numbers. He didn't even get a blind! He's 6 months.

Ayomi · 23/04/2008 18:29

I'm 40+4 and sitting in the 'nursey' which is still our home office and has all the junk from the massive clean up from the rest of the house stored in it too!
Don't know when it will be sorted but baby will be in with us for first six months so trying not to think about it too hard

sweetkitty · 23/04/2008 18:39

DD1 when she was 15 months

DD2 when she was 12 months

didn't really need a painted nursery as such as they were in with us

DD3 will get DD2's old nursery so it's already painted though

LuckySalem · 23/04/2008 18:44

DD is now 14 weeks and its still not finished! lol

CorrieDale · 23/04/2008 18:49

I'd had 3 mcs before i had DS so I don't really do any pre-baby prepping until there is a baby to prep for!

DS was 3 months old when I painted his. DD is 9 mo and she's in the spare room now, along with the spare bed and assorted furniture. I'd probably have sorted the room out by now if we weren't moving soon.
