Colonic irrigation during pregnancy

Does anyone know if it's safe? I'm just about to come off twice daily progesterone supositories after being on them for 3+ months. I feel they have messed my system up a bit and that I could do with a "clean out".

Anyone know if it's a problem to have it done while pregnant? I would tell her not to massage my stomach/intestine area.

My gut reaction would be to say no.....nothing to do with medical knowledge but why would you want to risk a not strictly necessary procedure whilst pregnant?

I wouldn't. I would avoid any unnecessary 'procedure" of any sort - including hair colouring and perms. It's probably completely safe, but if, god forbid, something awful happened, you'd never forgive yourself.

Not safe. Might trigger spasms in the intestine and thus contractions due to proximity.

Just do a light detox plan.

-Eat healthy (grains and pulses and fruit and veg + fish rather than meat).

• drink gallons of water and herbal teas (nettle and dandelion good liver detox and diuretic yet safe in pregnancy)
• Avoid heavy meals at night and have warm water with lemon juice first thing in the morning to flush system.
• Have live yogurt every day.

Exercise moderately to keep things moving (walk/swim)

Can I have Colonic Irrigation during pregnancy?
While some Colonic Irrigation therapists may treat a mum to be, we at Absolute Health believe this practice to be unsuitable. There are many chemical and hormonal changes which occur in the baby during pregnancy. Colonics releases toxins into the system and requires fairly intensive abdominal massage, neither of which can be good for a baby.

Hey..i suffer with really bad constipation especially with being pregnant but i found that fibregel is gentle safe but effective. I was wondering about colonic irrigation aswell but not risking the life of my bambino.

One of my friends had done colon cleanse ( www.coloncleansetoronto.ca/services/colon-hydrotherapy/ ) during pregnancy from a clinic in Toronto. She was expecting and was very severely constipated. She was addressed in a different way as her condition was that severe. But it is actually not recommended to have colonic treatment during pregnancy. It will be always better to seek advice from a doctor before getting any kind of treatment at this stage.

No. In short. If you are constipated to that degree go and see your GP. Colonic irrigation is used rarely in chronic constipation issues as a medical treatment and doesn't come without risks. Before this the patient would have many investigations to make sure their bowel is ok and there are no obvious issues to rule out any contradictions to this. Why risk your own health let alone a pregnancy by undertaking this?

Hopeful if OP is still constipated six years later I would worry for her!!
