Could I be pregnant? Postpartum error

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place, couldn’t think of a better topic.

I’m a first time mum, I’m pumping, and I don’t nurse due to baby’s latch. I substitute with formula occasionally (baby has formula about (5 to 7 times per week). Will pumping impact the return of my period like nursing would? Most feeds are pumped but again, some are formula.

I’m 9 week’s postpartum and still no period.
I’ve been experiencing period cramps for the past week but nothing has come of it. I usually get period cramps then start my actual period the following day, so this is unusual for me.

I’ve stupidly had unprotected sex with my husband three times. Once at 6 weeks postpartum and twice earlier this week. My milk supply has also randomly plummeted this week yet I haven’t changed anything. I’ve not missed any pumps, I’ve not changed my diet, I keep on top of changing pump parts, etc.

I don’t know if my supply drop is because of a potential upcoming period, or something else. I’m slightly worried I may be pregnant again but I did two cheapies (one yesterday and one the day before) and both were negative, so I doubt I am. Would it impact supply if I was, or can periods impact supply? Can pumping change your periods?

I don’t know whether to buy a better quality test, to prepare for a period, or to completely reassess how I feed.

Any advice would be appreciated

You can start ovulating again at any time - I was ebf and got my period back 8 weeks post birth. I think pregnancy can change supply but not sure it it would do so so early that a pregnancy hasn’t even picked it up. Maybe leave it a week and test again.

Good lord. Of course you could be pregnant if you have had unprotected sec multiple times. In fact it's very likely.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 22/09/2024 17:31

You hadj unprotected sex. Of course you could be pregnant.

HamSad · 22/09/2024 17:38

You had unprotected sex three times. Of course you could be pregnant.

MigGril · 22/09/2024 17:50

Err did they not tell you to use contraception at your 6 week checkup 🤷‍♀️.

You can get pregnant while breastfeeding and you can get pregnant before your period returns. Sonas you have had unprotected sex yes you could be pregnant. Not the most sensible move but you wouldn't be the first.

I'd wait a bit longer and test again.

Tigerbreadbum · 22/09/2024 17:52

Im sure this isn’t the update you wanted but I fell pregnant before my period returned whilst breastfeeding. The only way to know is wait and test

Spomb · 22/09/2024 17:53

They told me to use contraception when I was in the hospital!! 6w visit would have been a bit late!!

SErunner · 22/09/2024 18:28

It's not an error. You've been actively trying to have another baby if you've been having unprotected sex. Hope it turns out whichever way you want it to.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 22/09/2024 18:31

Conversely I didn't get my period for over two years when BF each baby. However if you're not planning a baby now then make sure you use protection assuming you're not already pregnant again, it can happen at any time.

FeedingThem · 22/09/2024 18:32

If it was due to pregnancy, it would be the sex at 6 weeks that did it, so I'd wait another week and retest. That would definitely be late enough to show.

The sex this week if leading to a baby won't be having any effect yet, so if no period in four weeks I'd test again.

And get contraception sorted. Hopefully you were too caught up in the moment etc but if it's because your partner was trying to rush you into having sex before you're ready, please speak to someone in RL. You don't owe him sex, he won't die without it,and his penis won't explode. Only do what you're ready to do under your rules.

llamali · 22/09/2024 18:34

You had unprotected sex 3 times so yes its possible you're pregnant

merryandbrightdelight · 22/09/2024 18:35

Definitely a good chance op, hope it works out the way you want it too

Pinkstuffs · 22/09/2024 19:54

You can ovulate even if you’re breastfeeding. Didn’t they tell you that in hospital? Every person I spoke to after giving birth tried to offer me contraception!
