Recently found Callan pronounced like “Cal-an” and really liking it, anyone ever heard of it and thoughts ?
I post a few posts but love hearing people’s thoughts before rather than after and without giving possible names away to family/friends

I think it’s a lovely name! Not sure I’ve heard of it but I prefer that! ☺️ Congratulations on your little man x

Babyboyno2 · 22/09/2024 11:58

@HopefulllHolly Thank you I would love a different name but nothing to crazy x

It sounds a bit like Alan so I imagine you will sometimes encounter a "this is Callan" "Alan???" "No, Callan" conversation but once corrected it'll be fine!

HopefulllHolly · 22/09/2024 12:00

I think it sounds more like Callum than Allan.

Babyboyno2 · 22/09/2024 12:07

Callan James is lovely I think . Yeah I get the Callum connection could be possibly mistaken , if it does be his name will just have to emphasise the “an” also get the alan but with a “c” in front but doesn’t put me off

@Babyboyno2 No I think it’s nice that it’s similar but Callan seems like a stronger name than Callum. I don’t see how someone could mistake it for Alan though 😂 quite rare to not hear a C noise. Mind you my father in law calls me Olleh 🤣🤣 (Nottingham accent)

Right then sorry for giving an opinion

Love it. Have heard it a few times up here in Scotland. Unusual but not out there and a great alternative to Callum

TribeofFfive · 22/09/2024 14:00

Sounds like Colin in a NI accent. I quite like it and I’ve never heard it before.

Tragicroundabout · 22/09/2024 14:40

I know several Callans (also a couple of Calieans - similar pronunciation). Prefer it to Callum. I'm in Scotland though- I don't think it's particularly unusual here.

Babyboyno2 · 22/09/2024 14:42

@Tragicroundabout im in NI personally know none , partner knows 1

@Babyboyno2 three if them are friends of one of my kids - maybe it was the 'in' name then. The other two are adults, neither of whom are Scottish (or Irish)!

Peonies12 · 22/09/2024 15:34

I’d think it would get mistaken for Callum or Alan too often, could be annoying for the kid
