Hi

Anyone else go overdue its over by 2 days
Im really upset my little man is not here yet.
It really feels like it will last forever and he will never come along..

Im worried because i dont want to have people messing about down there to speed things along, think we can all agree its not a comfortable feelings to have someones fingers inside you and your legs in stirups..

Any got any advise? how long should this take before i should get worried about the fingers and all the tests etc.

Having a sweep doesn't hurt at all IME, and doesn't require your legs to be in stirrups.

It is massively common for babies, first ones in particular, to be late - only 5% of babies actually arrive on their due date you know.

I understand that after 40 weeks of pregnancy you have probably had enough and are just keen to meet your baby, but do try and make the most of your last few days of peace and quiet.

Talk to your midwife if you want to know how long they are likely to leave you in your area, but they are unlikely to talk about induction until you are at least 10 days over.

although i agree with cantsleepwontsleep, my sweeps were uncomfortable as my cervix was posterior with DS and the MW kept trying to bring it forward which was sore. Not sure about the stirrups as i never had them and i had 4 sweeps (and was induced at term+7 for medical reasons).

i think they will leave you between to go 10 and 14days overdue since pregnancy is anywhere between 37 and 42 weeks. have you tried curry, long walks, pineapple, sex, all the the above?

Dont stress as that will make you more tense and labour will only happen when you are relaxed.

I was 12 days over with DS1. I went in to be induced at 12 days and they applied the gel stuff and four and a half hours later I had a baby boy so he was ready to come!

We tried everything to get things going: curry, pineapple, sex, long walks every evening and I think in a way it all worked because once he started he didn't hang about. I had two sweeps as well (they aren't pleasant but they didn't hurt me).

DH even abandoned me in the middle of nowhwere when I was 3 days over because the car ran out of petrol and he left me in the car, and it was blowing a gale outside, while he went off to find petrol (scary though it was it didn't bring on labour). I wouldn't recommend that method!

Being overdue is hard and it feels like you're going to be huge for ever but it does end.

Been talking lots about this in recent weeks (all my friends were 'overdue') Please remember that the due date is just a wild calculation based on a 28 day menstrual cycle. I'm telling everyone I'm due in the middle of July so they don't call me every day, which gets REALLY annoying and the more stressed you get, the less the baby wants to make an appearance. RELAX...talk to your baby, it'll come when it's ready!

Hey, it's my due day today, I am really hoping baby comes soon..... but no signs at all of impending labour as yet! :-(

jess1396 · 21/04/2008 12:14

Hey, well congrats and let me know when your baby comes along.

Thanks guys it really helps to talk to other mums and pregnant women.

Yes this is my 1st baby, so i know the baby was likely to be a bit late.. ;-)

Dd was 22 (twenty two - not a typo) days late.
Current bump was due last Wednesday.

Try not to think of 40 weeks as a complete pregnancy. In France you're not considered overdue until 40+10.

Your baby will be here soon.

Anybody else still waiting for their baby to arrive ? :-)

I was 10 days late and ended up being induced.

Try not to worry about it too much, go out for coffees and meals, watch DVDs, take naps, read books/magazines etc. as much as you can.
You won't get the chance when your little boy is born!

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 24/04/2008 14:35

Besta dvice is that it will happen and then it'll all be forgotten- the waiting that is (ds4 8 days late, 2 weeks old nbow and it seems irrelevant though i was really low at the time)

Evening primrose oil can supposedly help get the cervix ripe, think it worked for me but cant know for sure- you swallow one dose and then pop two up yer bits each night before bed

after that, you can try the rest- curry, sex, etc- to start things off, once you're off clary sage gets it going big time

but no clary sage until underway
