Sick as a dog, don't know what to do

7+3 today and I've been ill since last Sunday. Sleeping lots too. I've taken the whole week off work and sent my toddler into nursery for an extra day because I was not capable of looking after him on my day "off".

I thought I had a stomach bug due to the d&v but by Wednesday it hadn't cleared up so I spoke to my GP who gave me Cyclizine. I've been taking it for 3 days now, every 8 hours, the max you're allowed.

I've managed to keep down a bit of water and a couple of slices of toast. Today I was feeling "better" so had pasta for lunch and chips and a sausage for dinner only to vomit everything up a couple of hours ago.

I'm now back in bed, my stomach hurts, I feel nauseous but wide awake, on the brink of puking again and it's just hell.

I don't know what to do I can't think clearly, someone please tell me.

I'd go back to the GP. I was the same at the early stages - sick as a dog. Medication really helped and made me feel a bit more human - I can't remember which one it was I'm afraid though, although the one your taking doesn't sound familiar so hopefully there is something else out there that can help x

Yep. Back to gp. Don't suffer. There's lots you can safely take. It's not sustainable to be this ill.

I was the same from 6 weeks till about 14. I was so rough and tried 2 diff medications which didn't help and gp wouldn't prescribe anything else. I had to have a month off work, all I could do was lie in bed, and vomit 50x a day. Poor Dh had to wash my hair as I was to weak to even do that. Gp did say I had hyperemsis but not severe enough to go into hospital. Thank god it's passed now cos I wasn't sure I was going to survive it!!!!

Some things that helped me -

Salted crisps
Full fat Coke
Ice lollies

Go back to GP and request another medication. Keep trying until you find something that helps. I was on two at the same time, still felt sick throughout but I can able to go back to work.

I had cyclizine and it didn't work for me. I was prescribed Xonea instead and it's made such a difference. Id definitely ask for a different medication, you shouldn't have to suffer like that. X

You need ondansatron. Don't suffer sweetheart

RobertJohnsonsShoes · 20/09/2024 22:28

I had hyperemesis- there's a group on here that helps. I had a mix of ondansetron and metaclopramide. Get to the doctors, you've a real high risk of severe dehydration. You poor thing, I remember it well, x

SweetSakura · 20/09/2024 22:31

Rest as much as possible (difficult with another child I know)
Tiny sips of water or ice lollies/ice chips so you stay hydrated
Keep an eye on yourself - get some ketostix so you can monitor yourself
Definitely go back to the doctor if the medication isn't working. I ended up needing IV hydration from time to time but it was amazing as it gave me respite and meant I could eat for a bit.
Don't worry about the baby, they get what they need -mine were both chunky healthy babies

Tigertiger23 · 20/09/2024 22:35

Oh I really feel for you. I was the same and it was the absolute worst. Cyclizine didn't help at all for me. I ended up getting signed off for about 5 weeks off work so do that if you need to. Look after yourself.
