Salad from restaurant

I had a bit of salad from a cafe/restaurant - the place has a 5 for hygiene rating. There is no risk of cross contamination with meat as the place is veggie.

How worried should I be?

What are you worried about, that they didn't wash the salad?
On a scale of 1-10 I would probably worry about a 1 🤣 honestly it's not something I would even think about unless it was obviously disgusting, but that's just me.

Zeeha · 20/09/2024 18:25

Hi @Beanz089, what are you worried about with the salad?

poila · 20/09/2024 18:26

Not at all worried.

Shinydoor · 20/09/2024 18:26

She’s worried about listeria - in the US and some of Europe they recommend not consuming salad leaves. Op the risk is teeny tiny tinsy negligible and no-one in the UK avoids this

UncharteredWaters · 20/09/2024 18:28

Relax - the stuff in your kitchen is probably far worse!!

Beanz089 · 20/09/2024 18:28

Thanks - well, I wasn’t initially worried but then I read online that salad (lettuce in particular) should be avoided (listeria, E. coli- not being washed properly)

Extremely worried. I can't believe you would eat salad at a restaurant. Shameful.

sel2223 · 20/09/2024 18:37

Best advice I ever got in pregnancy was to stay away from Google!

cuckooooooo · 20/09/2024 18:38

You will have a very anxiety filled pregnancy if you worry about salad

About 0.00000000000001% worried.

Cosycover · 20/09/2024 21:10

Didn't even know about this tbh.

I didn't find out I was pregnant till 10 weeks. I'll not even tell you what I'd been up to 😂

But I think you're safe!

Peonies12 · 20/09/2024 21:38

Not worried at all. Don’t google! And get some mental health support if your worrying is affecting your life

I’m ok actually - was just trying to understand tho why it was a thing and talked about in the first place but I am coming to learn that google is not a pregnant woman’s friend 😅
oh, and glad to be living in a country with higher food standards too!
thanks for the reassurance everyone x

Don’t apologise op. The NHS says to be careful with salad during pregnancy. The risk is still tiny but you don’t have to listen to these people drolly telling you to ‘get help’ etc

JC03745 · 20/09/2024 23:03

Because there HAVE been outbreaks of e-coli and listeria in salad goods! They aren't that common, but only a few months ago that salad leaves in sandwiches were linked to an e-coli outbreak.
Don't beat yourself up about it though. Follow the NHS guidelines and try to relax for the rest of the pregnancy.
