Braxton hicks 28 weeks - short cervix

Hi ladies,

urgh, I’m just hoping for some advice as I’m an anxious mess at the moment. Went into hospital last night for increased fetal movements and they told me I was having regular contractions (which I could feel when I was on the monitor). I’ve had the odd tightening before but it’s normally once or twice a day, not regular pattern in a short space of time.

they sent me home after having an internal scan to check cervix (it was closed but I have a shorter cervix anyway due to previous lletz- it’s now 28mm).

anyway, today I’ve been having more braxton hicks - regularly and whilst they don’t hurt, they’re getting a little more uncomfortable!!

hospital don’t seem too concerned at the moment but I just wondered if anyone else had had regular braxton hicks this early? Is there anything I can do to stop them?

any advice would be lovely - thank you xx

Braxton Hicks can start as early as 16 weeks, unfortunately! Did they carry out a swab to determine your chance of going into labour within the next two weeks? Have you lost any fluid or mucus?

@Planits they didn’t do a swab no? The consultant said there’s only a 20% chance of labour before 34 weeks.. not lost any mucous plug or extra fluid thankfully x

I had this in both pregnancies, but more so in the second, I had a short cervix the first time around due to Lletz, 24mm from 24 weeks, it is worrying, but first pregnancy I went to 40+5. Second pregnancy induced at 39 weeks, was admitted once at 31 weeks due to the regular tightenings, they did a test and no indication that labour was imminent, the second time they picked it up, they let me go home but under strict instructions that if anything changed to go straight back in. Midwife said it was likely that I had an irritable uterus
