I have just discovered I'm 5 weeks pregnant at 44. I would love any advice from women who have been in a similar situation.

Seems harsh. never heard of such advice before. I'm 43 and 34weeks pg. Do you realise the thread you've bumped is really old? there's an active thread called 'is there a thread for the old birds...' or something like that. There are quite a few on the thread but it's quite a quiet thread. Congratulations!

I found out I was pregnant a month after my 40th; it's my first. I can think of at least a dozen girls (yes, we still think of ourselves as girls) I know who are between 40-42 who have all given birth to beautiful babies. Go past the school gates of a local primary school and there are clearly a LOT of mothers in their forties. I also have a friend who was 44 when she got pregnant - she was pretty unfit and overweight and she gave birth to a beautiful boy. And I know someone who was 47 when she found out unexpectedly. She has a lovely two year old boy and works full time as a solicitor! It can't be done.

I (and other pregnant friends) get freaked out by all the info out there, which includes talk of age. But I reckon that I would probably be worried about everything even if I was thirty, just in a different way. Pregnancy seems to breed neurosis.

And I do feel fine. A few aches and pains but I've been looking after myself for years (apart from the odd fall from grace) so I feel healthier than I did in my early thirties.

I have my 12 week scan next week - fingers crossed for me!

Good luck and don't worry. All you can do is look after yourself and let nature take care of the rest.
