Advice Needed on Leakage (Possible TMI)

Hi ladies,

Sorry to be quite so graphic but I need some advice regarding little leaks I keep having. Currently 32 weeks pregnant. When I sit up in bed at night, sometimes I feel a bit of a trickle and when I get up, there’s a little wet patch on the bed, about a couple of inches in diameter. It has a slight odour, and sometimes dries white. It doesn’t happen through the day (as far as I’m aware). It usually only happens once, and then doesn’t happen again until the next evening.

I’m just a little paranoid as my friend was telling me to make sure it’s not amniotic fluid, but I wouldn’t have the foggiest how to tell if it was. If it’s pee, it’s pee, no biggie, and if it’s discharge then fair enough. I’m just not sure what to think if that makes sense?

Anyone got any ideas?

Sorry again for the TMI, I just didn’t know who else to ask!

Midwife here

Sounds like a pooling of discharge which is then leaking when you get up. In both my pregnancies I've had sooo much discharge and feel this happen sometimes too. It's reassuring that it's not ongoing through the day. But if in doubt, call your maternity unit and get checked over, it's what it's there for 😊

If you're worried, you can go in and be checked. I had this - quite minimal leaking, but my midwife recommended I go in, and they did a swab and it was my waters. It never leaked more than a little bit at a time, but I needed antibiotics, steroids, and was induced at 37 weeks.

If you get the chance to sniff while damp …

I can’t say I’ve ever smelt sperm tbh so not sure what it would smell like.

It’s hard to describe the odour to be honest. I have contacted my GP though so waiting for a response ☺️
