Pregnancy of uncertain viability

Just had a scan at the hospital due to pain last week and brown spotting since Saturday. I am not in any pain now. No red bleeding. The scan showed a gestational sac but it was empty. No sign of an ectopic.

I've been told go have another scan in 2 weeks where they will be able to confirm if it's viable or not.

My last period was on 1st August so according to my dates I should be 6+1. They said potentially I'm earlier on than I thought and that in two weeks things will have progressed. Obviously the alternative is a miscarriage.

Any words of wisdom? I'm really upset. I'm getting strong positive tests still and minor symptoms like sore boobs and tiredness. Don't know what to think.

Hmm I'm 5+4 and had some red then pink bleeding last week, only very pale pink since on occasion. They said they'd bring my scan forward as early as they could, but that's at 7weeks. They said they wouldn't be able to see anything before then. So could it be the case that it's just not visible?

I'm sorry you're going through the worries. I've waited 3years for this positive and I'm analysing everything. I hope everything will be ok.

Unfortunately you'll just need to wait and see in the 2 weeks. It's hard I know. It is possible you're earlier than you think. It really depends how sure you are on your dates and if you tracked ovulation etc.
Am empty sac could indicate a blighted ovum/missed miscarriage. Unfortunately you do still get symptoms and very positive tests with those. I've had 2 missed miscarriages so I'm well versed in this unfortunately.
But it could be that in 2 weeks it's all fine.

Thank you both so much for responding. It's a lonely time so I'm grateful for your responses.

I did ovulation tests so know when they showed as positive and only had sex twice in the month so fairly confident on dates but who knows what my body was doing.

I'm desperately sad to think this might not be the one, but holding onto a tiny bit of hope that things could be okay. It's going to be a tough two weeks

Well I'll wait along with you @loopnoot . My early scan is next Thursday (becuase of the bleeding) and I've been still getting light pink on wiping, mostly a.m.

It's just as @Boxoo says that all we can do is wait and see. I'd always been rather jealous of people that managed their positive test but I now understand the precariousness of it all. I really hope that little seed is still growing for you x

Hi OP, this is very normal on early scans and no way of telling what's going to happen until your follow up scan unfortunately.
This is a high risk time for any pregnancy and posts like this are common on this forum.
Most of the time, the update is very positive but of course nothing can be guaranteed until the next scan.
Good luck, I know the waiting is awful. You have to try and occupy yourself as best you can.

So sorry you're going through this, I know it can be such a worrying time. It sounds like you're fairly sure on dates. It's so hard to wait it out and as others have said it could go either way which leaves you in a horrible limbo. Something very similar happened to me with my first pregnancy and it turned out to be a blighted ovum, which was devastating. But I did go on to have two healthy pregnancies so it's not the end of the road by any means if this is your outcome here. Wishing you all the best OP x

Thank you so much everyone.

Since my last post I've had a bit of red blood and darkening brown blood. Period type pains on and off. I just feel the outcome is inevitable and it's just a waiting game now.

I truly hope I'm wrong but I can't see how it could be viable :(

I hope anyone in a similar position is okay x

Oh I’m so sorry to read that. I hope that if it is a mc that you’re supported and feeling ok. Will be thinking of you in your healing x

@loopnoot thought I'd let you know that at my scan I had the same result, ges sac measuring behind, and yolk sac but no fetus (there should have been a heartbeat). I've had a few days to absorb and grieve, and am just hoping my body will naturally deal with it quickly. Scan next Monday to confirm, and then they'll go over options.
