Hey girls, do these scan pictures look ok for what we think I am is 6 weeks… I felt like crying because I was expecting to see more. I know that sounds stupid as I’m only 6 weeks, silly me. But when will baby be visible to see 🥺 she said everything seems fine and in the right place. Can I see everyone else’s 6 weeks scans to if it looks like mine x

Totally normal. Baby visible from around 9 weeks in my experience depending on position and whether its an internal or external scan.
I know it’s disappointing, but great news that all is good!

Cobblersorchard · 17/09/2024 11:07

What did you have the scan for?

There is no baby at 6 weeks! What on earth….they should be banned and only used in hospital for people with medical
issues like fertility issues, suspected ectopic etc.

There’s cells in the right place @Chloe207 - what more do you want at this stage? Full on “gender” reveal? If you have concerns about generics have NIPT at 10+ weeks. At that stage they start to look human.

Otherwise you just wait.

DappledThings · 17/09/2024 11:09

At 6 weeks it's only a few millimeters long. What were you expecting to see?

Wow, no need for that at all! I thought I was further along! She told me at my scan I was 6 weeks! So I was expecting to see more! I know alot of people and have seen a lot of people go for early scans! Not just me.

Ignore the nasties.
Plenty of people have early scans.
I had them weekly following with my daughter after having recurring miscarriages before her.
It was fascinating to see how things develop.
By 10/12 weeks they will resemble a baby but before that not so much.

Jk987 · 17/09/2024 11:27

The professional who did the scan should be advising. They shouldn't just hand you a picture and leave you to worry😖

HopefulllHolly · 17/09/2024 11:27

I had one scan at 7 weeks (IVF) to confirm location - was like a little worm - definitely not baby like at all (and they aren’t a baby really at that point). Saw the heartbeat.

Had a reassurance scan at 9.5 weeks and this looked like a little jelly baby. So you’ll feel more reassured if you were to have one then.

As hard as it is - no amount of scans will change the outcome and will only reassure you for a day and then you’ll start worrying again. So deep breath and just remember today you are pregnant! And keep repeating that until you get past 12 weeks and in to the slightly safer territory. 😊

Olika · 17/09/2024 11:29

I had a scan at 8 weeks and could only see attached so probably will need to be over 12w to see something properly as month later I had my 12w scan and there was actually a baby looking baby growing there. 😊

Were you tracking ovulation etc? How sure were you of your dates when you say you thought you were further along? Or are you just going by your last period only?

adviceonchildplease · 17/09/2024 11:46

That looks ok to me, I wouldn't worry😊however I think there is a name visible at the top of the photo, you may want to crop that out? X

Copenhagener · 17/09/2024 11:46

I had IVF and even knowing the exact dates they won’t scan for viability until 8 weeks as there’s so little to see until the point a heartbeat starts.

If you have any further scans I’d recommend to wait until 12 weeks - it’s sad to hear, but (unless there’s suspicion of an ectopic) a baby will miscarry regardless if it’s not a viable embryo. This is way more likely for <12 weeks. After that, it’s a lot more fun to see! I had scans at 8, 12, 17 and 20 weeks.

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

narns · 17/09/2024 11:53

I had a scan at 8 weeks in my last pregnancy and could see what looked like a tiny baby moving. I also had an internal scan at 6 weeks due to a previous ectopic (to check placement) and basically saw what you can see in your scan. There was no heartbeat at my 6 week scan (or even a fetal pole that they could see), hence the 8 week one!

WonderingAboutBabies · 17/09/2024 11:58

That looks normal for 6 weeks. I had a scan at 8 weeks to ease my anxiety and all we saw was a teeny blob with a yolk sac attached.

However, if you thought you were a few weeks later than 6, and you are only measuring at 6 weeks, I'd recommend a follow up scan in 2 weeks time to make sure everything is ok x

Canadianmaple · 17/09/2024 12:03

It’s till technically an embryo until 10 wks, at which point it’s classified as a foetus. Please don’t get sucked into multiple early scans unless you have a medical need to do so, there’s so many stories on this board of mums experiencing unnecessary anxiety as a result.

DownWhichOfLate · 17/09/2024 12:34

If you think you’re closer to 8 weeks you should be able to see more. How sure are you of dates?

sel2223 · 18/09/2024 10:12

That looks totally normal, there isn't really anything to see that early which is why scans at that stage are often frowned upon unless for a genuine medical concern.

You can Google '6 week scan', '8 week scan' '10 week scan' etc and look at the images for an idea of what you can see at each stage. It changes quite rapidly
