Prochlorperazine for nausea?

For a bit of backstory, I had a miscarriage back in April. This miscarriage was caused by a reaction I had to an antibiotic I was put on at the time for a cyst I had down below. So naturally, I'm really nervous about taking any medication this time around.

I'm currently almost 13 weeks pregnant and the nausea is absolutely unbearable, I am keeping some food down but the constant nausea and food aversion is driving me mad.

My doctor prescribed me Prochlorperazine. Has anyone taken this? It's a tablet you place between your gum and lip. I've tried to push through without meds but I don't think I can much longer but I'm so nervous about taking anything.

Don’t be nervous. Many of the drugs prescribed for sickness are commonly used in pregnancy now and there is data about their safety and effectiveness.

the sooner you take medicine the more likely it is to work for pregnancy sickness

Google Pregnancy Sickness Support for loads of good information and also a helpline / text line where others who have experienced this can help you enough. They helped me so much.

I take metoclopramide and I was worried about it. But the sickness would have had a greater impact on my wellbeing and therefore that of the baby. It’s tough but there are defo options out there.

good luck!

Yes, I've taken it in both my pregnancies with no issues. Have a 2.5 yo and currently 33 weeks with my second. My understanding is it is very safe. I hope it works for you!

It didn't help me in any way.
Try xonvea. It was a life changer! Made me sleepy but at least I stopped vomiting non stop.

Hi OP
My heart goes out to you. Sickness is so so real. I had hypremesis (sp?) and actually thought I was going to end me so sending love!

I was given the same medication. It did work but gave me very lucid dreams so I stopped taking it.

I have no idea how you feel about alternative therapies but I did do acupuncture which really really helped.

Happy health baby arrived 3 years ago!

I was prescribed it in pregnancy for vertigo and it made a huge difference to my quality of life. I don't believe there are any risks with it but I understand your hesitation

I've had 4 HG pregnancies, but my last one was the worse. From 5 weeks pregnant I started taking anti sickness tablets and went through - cyclizine, ondansetron, metochlopramide and prochlorperazine. None of these worked and my wellbeing was becoming increasingly bad so I resorted to going onto steroids to stop the sickness. They helped the HG a lot but I was worried I'd done some damage to my baby. Well my 14 month old little boy is sleeping soundly on my chest now, perfectly healthy.

You could always go for acupuncture. Pick a therapist who specialises in gyno and womens health. Mine is £45. The first appointment is more as longer to do your case history.

Thank you so much, everybody! It makes me feel better how normal it is to be hesitant with this kind of thing. I took my first tablet last night and touchwood, I don't feel as sick this morning. I think I'll just take them as and when I need them, though.
