9 weeks pregnant no heartbeat twin pregnancy

Hello! I’m looking for some advice from people who experienced something similar. I’m currently 9 weeks and 5 days pregnant based on my last period. I had my first private scan on 25th of august. At that point there was no embryo seen, only sac measuring 15.2mm and a yolk. 4 days later I went to EPU due to some bloody discharge and they also only saw the sac that only grew to 17mm and no embryo. I had my hcg levels taken around what would be week 8 since my first day of last period and it was 76000 and 79000 48 hours later. They told me it’s unlikely to be a viable pregnancy but to still come for the repeat scan. 13 days later (today) I went for my repeat scan and was told they can see two sac and two embryos both measuring very small (3.5mm and 2.9mm). No heartbeat has been detected. I have been told to come back again in 6 days. The sonographer told me most likely not good news as still some discrepancies with dates since the last scan. Anyone has been in a similar situation and had medical management with twins around 10 weeks.

OP, I'm so sorry you're going through this. I haven't experienced it but didn't want to read and run.
Take care

Oh love, I’m sorry.

I’ve had similar this time — I’m about the same gestation as you. They saw two embryos at 7+6 and 8weeks; but only one heartbeat. I’m 9+2 today, and it’s expected that the non-surviving twin will have disappeared by 12 weeks.

Your HCG levels were good; but they didn’t rise by much in 48 hours, and combined with them not seeing a heartbeat today and the sizes not adding up, I’d be preparing for the worst - but I’m really hoping that it’s not x

I am preparing for the worst, it’s a bit frustrating to wait another 6 days as I’m worried the longer I wait the harder it’s going to be to use the medical management option (will be 10 weeks and 5 days at that point)

Did they retest your HCG yesterday?

2.9mm would be about 6 weeks pregnant, possibly 6+1, which doesn't seem to match up with your dates at all. 3.5mm would be closer to 7 weeks.

I'm sorry that they're making you wait so long. I'd guess that they're hoping that in 6 days, if you're actually a LOT later than you think, the heartbeats might have started - but it wouldn't match up with your dates at all, and in that case, your HCG should have grown massively, so I'm surprised they're not using that as an early indicator for you.

I hope the 6 days passes as quickly and smoothly as possible for you, and I've got my fingers crossed. It was hard enough to hear there was only one heartbeat, I can't imagine hearing that there isn't any.

No they didn’t retest my HCG levels yesterday and I forgot to ask them. Yes I see what you mean. It’s all a bit frustrating and stressful

@hello57906478 so sorry about this, re medical management vs surgical the latter isn’t necessarily the worse option, saying that as someone who has medical with retained tissues needing surgery so the process went on for weeks

Thank you. That is my concern as well (especially with twin pregnancy).
