I'm new to bbt, any thoughts on my chart? I feel like I'm due to start my period(which I should be today/ tomorrow 😩 it's so different to last months chart. Still all negative pregnancy tests though 😪

Hmmm - it’s hard to read as you had high temperatures after your period when they are usually at their lowest. Have you been temping the same time every day and before you get up/go to the loo?
It could be that you actually ovulated on the 31st which is when you see the temps go higher than your post-period temperatures, and also has the biggest temp jump (it should rise substantially when you ovulate whereas the blue “fertile days” it doesn’t. I’d assume from that basis you ovulated later, so aren’t due for your period just yet.

I have a very short cycle of 23/24 days. I also thought I ovulate day 8-10 but this chart tells me different. I have the Samsung watch 6, so I don't actually take my own temperature. Should l?

@Rivermay Temperatures taken on the skin are not at all accurate - you’ll need a proper BBT thermometer to do it properly. Yeah it looks like you still ovulate around day 13-14 of your cycle, it can vary. Once you have a few cycles done with a thermometer then you can count backwards from your period to when you ovulate to work out your luteal phase - this usually stays about the same every cycle.

Thank you so much. Really appreciate your help. I'll get one and give it a go. Im shocked I've ovulate so late 😕 meaning the luteal phase is short too 😳

@Rivermay It might be a tiny bit short (still classed as normal though!) but better to know when you ovulate and know it’s shorter than not. I had an 11 day luteal phase and by taking prenatals it went to 12/13 over time. Doctors can help. But until you temp properly for a few months you don’t really know exactly when it is. If I guess you ovulated on the 31st August then you’re on day 10 now, so see when you come on your period and go from there. I could be wrong with when I think you ovulated as your watch won’t be accurate (it can be affected by you having your arm under the covers or pillow or all sorts).

For what it’s worth I BTTd for years (over 5 years) and I enjoyed knowing more about my cycle. I ended up having IVF and my temperatures when pregnant were not much different than when I wasn’t. So I’d say it’s great for TTC and knowing your cycle but less so for looking for pregnancy.

Blue2020 · 10/09/2024 12:49

I used an Apple Watch and even with calculated changes (setting my sleep cycle to end before I wake up) it wasn’t fully reliable compared to taking my temp with my mouth. It was in general ok eg lower pre-ovulation and higher post but it still had some variation.

Highly recommend just a cheap thermometer that reads to 2 decimal places. It’s been very accurate for me vs my watch.

Rivermay · 10/09/2024 12:57

Wow so you know what your talking about. I'm so new to this. I got the watch as a friend told me it helped her. It's very interesting and not something I had to think/knew about in my previous pregnancies. I'm late 30s and been trying for a year and a half now, I'll give anything a go. Ive order a thermometer off amazon and downloaded a bbt chart app too. It is interesting and I'm looking forward to getting to understand my cycle. So glad you've helped me 😊

@Rivermay Have you got children already? If you haven’t and want them and in the UK then my best advice would be to go to your GPs and tell them you’ve been trying for over a year and ask for blood tests and semen tests for your partner. These take such a long time and worth getting done just to check if anything is wrong. Like you I was TTC for a long time and I wish I’d pushed the doctors much sooner! Not to scare you but just to get a better picture.

teatoast8 · 10/09/2024 13:12

Do it vaginally. Its more accurate

Rivermay · 10/09/2024 13:48

Yes two children. I have a great gynaecologist he removed my coil nearly two ago, I did have surgery recently to remove a lump for my vaginal canal. Whilst doing that he checked everything from ends to pcos. I did have blocked tubes that were unblocked with a hgc dye test. I am going back for a check up soon so I will ask about some more tests. We got the semen test from Lloyds pharmacy, test came back normal (he's not one for doctors 🙄 )
