Possible partial molar pregnancy

Hi all, don’t know if anyone can help.

Ive just been for an early scan as I was having symptoms related to an ectopic pregnancy.

i am suppose to be 7 weeks today from my last period.

the scan showed that I have a possible partial molar pregnancy. The sonographor was concerned that my uterus/womb was very cysty and that the sac was only measuring 5w 2 days with no fetal pole. She said that she was concerned for me and they took me into a quiet room whilst the nurse went and spoke to the consultant.

they came back around 40 mins later and said they weren’t sure as my HCG levels were normal and normally they’d be raging with a partial molar pregnancy. I had 40 minutes of me thinking that I am having a d and c and the baby was not viable, and concerned of the tissue from the scan to huh what’s going on. I’ve got to wait a whole week for another scan.

anyone had anything similar? Any experiences would be appreciated.

thank you x

Hi OP,

I had a partial molar earlier this year detected at 10 weeks, sending lots of thoughts your way.

My biggest advice to you would be to not Google, you will find yourself for hours looking through pages and putting the fear in to yourself.

It’s a cruel diagnosis as your body still believes that you are pregnant, but the anomaly that you have is your hcg levels as they would be abnormally high in a molar as they just continue to multiply at a rapid rate, mine peaked at 360,000 at point of diagnosis. I ended up having an evac and then had to return for a further surgery a few weeks later as they hadn’t removed all of the molar and i ended up having a massive bleed (not my greatest moment in the office at work!)

I’m now over 6 months on and due to be signed off from the specialist centre in Sheffield and i feel like i can actually move forward now.

I really hope you are getting the support you deserve xx

Thank you so much for your reply and sharing your story. I have never felt as sad and lost as I do now.

its the unknown for me, I’ve got to wait a whole week to find out what’s going on I can hardly bring myself to move out of bed. They just told me to come back in a week and they’ll go from there. It was confusing as the sonographer was quite like this is the possibility but all the signs are pointing there, and the nurse was like well your HCG levels are normal so maybe ok. Like how am I suppose to just sit and wait to know whether my baby is alive or not?

in my head, I am sure it must be a partial molar pregnancy. I’m suppose to be 5 weeks and 3 days today according to the scan yesterday, but I haven’t had intervourse in 4 weeks due to a surgery, so it would be impossible to be just over 5 weeks pregnant now?

again thank you, I appreciate it xx
