Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has been through something similar with a positive outcome? I’m around 4+2, hard to know exactly because I have such irregular cycles. I had the tiniest bit of brown discharge yesterday but have been feeling really crampy and have a sharp pain in my right side. I went to the ED and they did both types of scan but couldn’t find anything in my uterus, but could see a cyst on my ovary. They want me to come back in 48 hours to see if my hcg has doubled, but I’m thinking surely it could be too early to see anything on a scan? So worried 🥲

It's far too early to see anything on a scan!

At 5+ weeks you would expect to see the gestational sac but bear in mind your dates could be off if you don't know exactly when you conceived.
The yolk sac and fetal pole develop next.
Between 6 and 7 weeks you should see the feotus and hopefully heartbeat.

There's nothing else they can do except monitor HCG at this stage then rescan in a week or 2. I'm surprised they even bothered to scan at this stage.

Try not to panic, try to distract yourself until you know more. If you are feeling well keep busy, if you feel ill or get any of the symptoms they’ve told you to look out for then head to early pregnancy unit or call. I had this, it turned out too early to see anything rather than a misplaced pregnancy.

Sending love and hope your way x

@sel2223 Thank you, I appreciate your reply so much! That’s exactly what I thought-the doctor seemed to make such a big deal of not seeing anything and I thought to myself-my period would only roughly be due this week! 🥲

@Greentreesandbushes Thank you so much for your reply! It really is such an anxious time-the unknown is very daunting 😞 I’m going to keep an eye on the pain and will def go back if it gets worse x

that’s far too early to see anything! usually they say from about 6 weeks to see little bean. brown discharge could be old blood clearing from implantation & I had period-like cramps on and off until about 11 weeks

I know it’s easier said than done but try not to worry, keeping my fingers crossed for you!x

@cherrybl0ssom5 Thanks so much-I thought the same! Aw that’s really reassuring to know, there hasn’t been much since and I’m really hoping the hcg will have risen enough! Appreciate that so much x

What was your HCG?

My EPU won’t scan if it’s not high enough to see a heartbeat, to prevent situations like this. The only exception is if you’re showing signs of an ectopic.

Baddaze · 07/09/2024 21:54

@YouveGotAFastCar They actually didn’t give me the levels yet-I was waiting for hours and a blood test was the last thing they did before they asked me to come back in 😅 The Clearblue digital I took said 2-3 weeks so I think the number must be in around the right range?

Yep this is why they did a scan and I’m terrified of ectopic now 🥲

Just an update for anyone who may find themselves in a similar situation-I had a scan today and we saw a pregnancy sac and little bean in the right place 😊😊😊 I’m around 5 weeks 6 days so early still! Thanks so much to everyone for your advice 🩷
