Hey. Does anyone have any tips. I am over come with anxiety and constant worry as I’m only 5 weeks 3 days pregnant. I am always worried and anxious I don’t know how I’m going to cope till my 12 weeks scan. I had a scan the other day and in showed gestational sack and yolk sack but no baby, I’m hoping it’s just because I am too early. But it’s made me more anxious.

5+3 is soooo early darling so that should be why you didn't see much in the scan! A lot of places won't scan that early as it causes so much stress and anxiety when there isn't much there to see.

I completely get the anxiety of it - we miscarried at 7 weeks in April and I'm currently 11 weeks now and eagerly waiting for my 12 week scan!

We did have 2 private scans (if you can afford it that's another option but still wait a little longer!) and that brought comfort to see our baby and their heart beating away. There's no shame in going every week if you need it to ease your mind!

Fingers crossed for you love, you're almost half way to 12 weeks! X

I'm very surprised you had such an early scan - good private scan places shouldn't offer them til 8 weeks. I'd be careful of more scans unless you have symptoms of concern, I only found them reassuring in that moment, and it doesn't change anything, it can provide false reassurance. You are never going to see much that early. Remember you can't do anything to affect the outcome. Just focus on each day, keep busy, focus on healthy eating, sleep etc. I was total anxiety free in my first pregnancy which did end in miscarriage, I wish I could get that back as this pregnancy has been much more worrying.

Maybe in the UK but this is not the case everywhere or for everyone.
I am British and live overseas, here they book you in for a scan straight away to confirm the pregnancy is developing in the correct location and not ectopic.
The standard is then that you have another when you should be around 8 weeks to check proportionate growth and heartbeat.
The schedule of scans after that is personalised to each individual pregnancy but it's around 1 a month normally- way more than what is offered in the UK.

I had a scan at 6+1 (everything present including heartbeat - I was lucky)
8+2 and 10+4 when I had the NIPT.
Next will be just over 13 weeks

I'd be more anxious waiting till 12 weeks with nothing before that - I'm terrified of MMC.

Hi OP, congratulations on your pregnancy.

Great news that the pregnancy is developing in the right place. The sonographer should have explained that you wouldn't see anything more than that at this early stage. It's between 6 and 7 weeks when you see a fetal pole, embryo and heartbeat.

Obviously it's early days but it sounds like everything is as it should be at the moment.

If you do go for another scan, try and go at 8 or 9 weeks..... the risk of MC drops considerably once you've seen a heartbeat at that stage (never to zero unfortunately but very much in your favour)

Good luck

Thank you. I feel a bit better after reading some of these. I had a scan in the EPU because j had back pains so they asked me to go in.
I really hope everything will be ok. Tbh asked me to go and l on the 19th of September so I’m hoping a better outcome then. X

I am going through this now. I am returning for my second scan to check for yolk sac, pole mag heartbeat on Monday. It’s been a long two and a bit of wait. I had my first scan two weeks ago on Saturday also due to cramps. If my dates are right I was about 5w2d and they saw what they believed was the start of a yolk sac but it was too small to determine what it is. I’m dreading the scan on Monday.

I took a pregnancy test daily for the first 12 weeks. Things got better with each milestone and scan. It's only now at 36 weeks that I realise that NONE of that worry and anxiety changed anything, nor would it have done. It was a horrible waste of energy and happiness. Try to remind yourself that.

I had a scan at 6 weeks and all they seen was this, so I had to go back for a scan 2 weeks later. Those 2 weeks were the worst, my anxiety was terrible as had 2 previous missed miscarriages.

But now I'm 15+4 with a healthy baby. Hope you get the good news you hope for 🤞🏽
