Hi I hope this reaches someone who can help , I'm beside myself with worry and don't know were to go for information feel left alone to just panic with no further information so I don't know where I'm coming or going. At my 20 week scan the sonographer had said she was worried about my daughters kidneys stating they aren't normal and I needed refered to fetal medicine she mentioned something about cystic kidneys but could not tell me what that even meant. Please help 🙏 😢 I don't know what this means for my daughters future/this pregnancy.

Hi,my daughter was found to have one multicystic kidney at 28 week growth scan,I'm south wales valleys and had to travel to Bristol for a more in depth 4d scan..if it is only one kidney everything should go fine,my daughter is now a happy 12 year old, they should really have discussed this with you at length as one kidney affected is fine,I'm afraid if both kidneys are affected the outcome is not good.

Thank you for your reply I'm glad to hear your daughter is doing well. No she said nothing other than they both are larger than they should be have it and the right is worse and to just wait and see what the specialists say when I get an appointment I'm so angry at being left at told nothing even after questioning her for some form of information. I only know its cystic kidneys due to looking at my notes on the badgernotes app

We were also told of kidney issues at our baby’s 20 week scan. They couldn’t give any more info then but we were seen by fetal medicine three days later. We still don’t have a full diagnosis - baby isn’t here yet and they can’t be 100% sure without checking him directly - but it seems likely that he has a multi cystic dysplastic kidney which won’t function. His “good” kidney has grown larger to compensate, and they’re happy that the rest of his renal function looks good. When he arrives he needs prophylactic antibiotics and then a scan within the first six weeks to confirm the diagnosis.

Getting the news at the 20 week scan was horrific. Wait to speak to fetal medicine - we were told that kidneys were one of the better organs to have an issue with as you only need one to function and the support we’ve had since then has been excellent. Hoping you get more productive news at your next appointment x

My daughter also had the 6 week antibiotics,a word of warning, the antibiotics cause really bad nappy rash,my daughter was basically nappiless for first 6 weeks, i put a changing mat and muslin under her in the crib, went through a lot of muslin squares.

Thank you for this heads up! I’m going to discuss using a baby probiotic with my midwife to see if that helps I think.

Thank you all for your input it helped me to prepare unfortunately we have been advised the baby will not survive the remainder of pregnancy or birth. I wish you well with your children and hopefully I'll be lucky enough to have another baby one day in the future . Bless you all

I'm so sorry to hear this.

Sending you all of the love. We lost our second daughter after a bad diagnosis at our 20 week scan (different condition).

Please be kind to yourself and ensure you get some time with a bereavement midwife. They will talk you through everything.

I'm so sorry you are going through this x
