Confusing GTT results

Hi everyone

I had my GLUCOSE intolerance Test today at 25 weeks pregnant. Fasted from 10pm last night for the first blood test @ 8.20am this morning.

I’ve already received my results via MyChart. Annoyingly they just send results with no further explanation.

I'm wondering if anybody can tell me if I should be concerned that my second test (post sugary drink & 2 hour wait) is lower.

Glucose 0 = 5.1 mmol/L
Glucose 120 = 4.5 mmol/L

Thank you so much in advance!

This is a normal result,
Fasting (glucose 0) should be 5.3 or below
2hrs (glucose 120) should be below 7.8

Obviously your fasting result is a bit close to the threshold so they might advise checking again in 6-8 weeks or just monitoring for glucose in your wee

Thanks so much @SouthwestSis - I’m more concerned that the 2hrs test was lower than the fasting one. Dr Google (bad idea I know) keeps bringing up the medical term “reactive hypoglycaemia” and it’s making me worry terribly! Will call the midwife in the morning and hopefully get some answers !

thanks for your reply xxx

It's perfectly fine, my 2hr result for my first GTT this pregnancy was only 3.0!
Just means your pancreas is working well and your body responding to your own insulin well at the moment.
I later did go on to have a 2hr result of 9.4 at my second GTT so just goes to show you what impact an advancing pregnancy can have!
