Recommend looking at whether you have a local sling library where you can go try some different slings on and find what works best for you :)

I second the sling library. Baby carriers aren’t a case of “good ones and bad ones”, they are like a pair of running trainers. They need to fit you and be comfortable for both you and baby. Equally you may find different carriers are better for different things and at different stages of baby’s development.

I loved my ergobaby! I found Baby Bjorn gave me backache so couldn't wear that for longer than an hour at most.

Maybe worth trying a sling library if you have one near, but if not ergobabys are incredibly comfy, and you can usually get good second hand ones on ebay/vinted.

Ergo baby has been amazing for us
and a stretchy one off Amazon

With my first I had BabyBjorn and never got on with it, felt so big and so many straps, I’m quite petite and baby was teeny. Lots of friends recommended Ergobaby so have gone with that this time.

Close Caboo for newborns up to about 4 months ish. Then either an Ergo or a Tula. Best bet is either a local sling library or an online sling library to try a few though. I know lots of friends got on with wraps, I couldn't do them.

I loved our bobs wrap for the early baby days, then we moved to a close caboo, and an Izmi breeze baby. We also have a gorgeous ring sling.
We also have a very old ergobaby 360, and an Izmi breeze toddler.

My partner and I like different slings for different purposes. I suggest you visit the library when your baby has arrived, try a few, hire them, see if you and baby get on.
In the interim you can get a 2-way stretchy for £5 on resale probably and that will work really well for those first few weeks.

Honestly wait till baby is here.
I thought I was gonna be a sling mum and I hated it. So hot and sticky!!
Wasted £600 on an Artipope sling to wear it twice 😂 then bought a Baby Bjorn one thinking I could get back into it, wore it twice and sold it.
My advice would be to have baba then go to a sling library lol x

I've got an ergobaby one and I love it. Both my partner and I wear it. Baby is very happy and content looking around at everything on our walks in the Brecon Beacons until she falls asleep, so she must be comfy too!

I ordered a Caboo lite from Amazon for when he was 4 weeks until 3/4 months. Then once he was a bit too heavy for that I moved to a supported one.

I went to a sling library and tried the Ergobaby 360 for a month and really liked it. So I bought the Ergobaby breeze. I liked that I could cross the straps over my back to give me support and reduce back ache.

I’m a wrap girl - but also a trained peer supporter so happy to help!

Definite don’t get a narrow based carrier - like the Bjorns/red kite. Not great for baby’s hips and not comfy in the long run. There are hacks to make it more ergonomic but that’s a flaff!

You should only forward face for less than 20 minutes when baby is awake and alert and only after baby has good head control- so I’d prioritise a carrier that either offers back or hip options as baby grows. (I saw a baby with positional aphaxiation once and I can assure you forward facing is not worth nearly losing your child- still one of the most traumatic things I’ve seen)

other than that - sling library and find what works for you!

Do see if you can borrow a few from friends or sling library, or if you have a local baby charity shop they often have a good range. It's a personal thing and your needs will change over time.

We liked the Close Caboo to start with and Ergobaby 360 for maybe a year after that. Tried a ring sling that my stepmum swore by but couldn't get on with it, and the stretchy wraps made me nervous although I think I'll try again this time round. I don't know how much was to do with my general nerves around being a first time parent.
