Baby clothes in room that's being painted?

Self-confessed over-worrier, here.

I have prewashed all baby's clothes and stored neatly away (probably for the first and last time!) in the nursery. Some are in the dresser, some in the wardrobe.

What I hadn't bargained for was DH giving the nursery one last coat of paint after I'd put everything away. And then storing the used paint trays (wrapped in cling film) under the dresser where I didn't see them. They have been there for 2+ weeks under all the lovely clean clothes.

Would you rewash everything for fear of it being "contaminated" with paint fumes (a mix of F&B and Dulux Trade), or just leave the window open and tell yourself to stop being silly and giving yourself more work?

I am 37+2 so baby could realistically come any day now. I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle trying to get everything ready!

Leave the window open so the room can air out a bit, it'll be fine

You'll probably start nesting soon and wash everything anyway, but it will be fine if you don't. The clothes were in drawers and baby will probably only wear each item for about 20 mins before they have to be washed again...

I think you're over thinking it.

I would want to be rid of the smell tbh. Do the clothes smell of paint to you?

I wouldn't bother listening to the respondants here, but just follow your own instinct. What you want to know is whether the baby will object to the smell of it's clothes, because if it does then you'll be getting no sleep this side of time.

If you are highly strung, then there's a decent chance that the baby will be too (I speak from experience).

So I would just use your own judgement and cheerfully ignore the rest of the world.

Also, you will be washing the clothes about 70 billion times in the first week alone, so one more time won't do any harm. By a week after the baby is born, the neatly folding will be a distant memory.

I would wash again without doubt- fabrics (clothes) can hold smells.

Each to their own though, I'm sure it'll be ok if you are unable to.
Or maybe asking a family member to wash them if it's too much for you to do?

Thanks everyone. I've given everything a good huff and decided they're fine. I was probably (definitely) catastrophising. The smell was from the tiny bit of fresh paint and had dissipated within an hour or two with the window open.

Cor this baby malarky doesn't half make you Google and question everything.
