Gestational diabetes - time to test fasting levels

Hi guys,

I'm struggling to work out when is the best time in the morning to test for fasting blood sugars.

I typically eat dinner around 7:30 p.m. and don't have a bedtime snack. I usually test my blood sugars in the morning about 9:00 a.m. when I get up and it's within range.
But when I test my blood sugars at 7:00 a.m, and then go relax in bed , my blood sugar levels are above range.

What time in the morning do you test for your fasting blood sugars?

I am worried that I'm hiding an issue by testing later in the morning which should be medically managed.

Thanks,
emily

I tested about 9am when I had GD and ate at around 8pm.

when you test at 7am is it massively out of range or just a few points? What happened if you tested again a few mins later?

also are you washing your hands before testing as that can affect the readings.

Also the definition of a fasting level is not eating after 8 hours so if the 7am level is a little high I would take 3 readings to see if one is higher than the others or if they are all similar.

I was just told anytime before breakfast! Maybe do 7am and 9am a few days and ask midwife? X

It's meant to be done as soon as possible after you get up and ideally at a similar time each day.
Sometimes at weekends I don't get up until 8 and test then but I have a 2.5yr old so a rare occasion that I get up after 6.45am!
