PAROVIRUS

I am pregnant. I got full bloods done by my GP. I just got my blood results back and under parovirus it said 'positive'. What is parovirus ? Does positive mean I have it or I had it in the past? Should I be worried ? Thanks

Does it say whether it's parvovirus IgG or IgM? The former shows immunity, the latter shows recent infection. Were the bloods done just as routine antenatal (in which case I'd be almost sure they were looking at IgG) or was this because you were ill/known to be exposed?

Parvovirus is often called ‘slapped cheek’ can be quite common in children. It might mean that you are positive for the antibodies which means if you caught the virus it won’t affect you. I’m a teacher and had a case in my school so had bloods taken to check for the antibodies.

It was IgG and was part of routine antenatal blood screening. If I'm immune does that mean I have previously had parovirus? I'm a teacher too.

Yeah, that means you've had parvovirus some time ago, and so are protected against catching it in this pregnancy, which is great.

Yeah means you’ve had it before & it won’t affect you or your pregnancy now. Being a teacher people said to me I’ve probably already had it without even realising which is great now!
