Progestogen Pessaries and Bleeding

Advice please!

Last week Wednesday we saw babies heartbeat at 8 weeks, EPU prescribed me with Progestogen pessaries as I had a missed miscarriage in June and having spotting/brown discharge.

After looking at the scan they can see I have a bruise in my uterus.

I took the pessaries on the Thursday and (2 a day) and on the Friday evening I felt a gush and slight cramping I wen to the toilet and Iw as bleeding bright red and a stringy clot.

I called EPU and they said they don't think I have miscarried as I would still be in pain and still bleeding.

They wont book me another scan as they feel that there is nothing to worry about.

Has anyone else had this and should I carry on taking the pessaries (they haven't tested my progestogen levels they have just given me the tablets) ?

HELPPPP very anxious first time mummy

Yeah definitely keep taking the pessaries, they are the only thing I am aware of that reduces your risk of miscarriage if you have bleeding in early pregnancy. They can't test your progesterone levels now as they will be altered by the pessaries, but don't worry about that, just keep taking them.

I would push for another scan though if you've had more bleeding, they should do you another one each time you bleed, even if it's just a quick tummy scan instead of an internal one. But yes they are right that bleeding is super common in pregnancy and doesn't mean the worst, but you will only feel reassured once you see the heart beat again on the scan. You could always pay for a private one if you can't get one in EPU.

I had similar happen to me and was told to but them in my back passage instead of vaginally.

I'd push for the scan though, just to keep your mind at ease.

I'm using the pessaries too after bleeding and previous miscarriages. Bit TMI but you can put them in front or back if you catch my drift. They can irritate the cervix and cause bleeding so I've been doing the back each time and it also stays in much better. Just in case you weren't aware of this. It's so stressful isn't it 🙈

It sounds like you have a small haematoma - the bruise in the uterus. The bleeding you had the other day might be where that blood is releasing and hopefully will stop when it's all released.
