"Smell" down there?

Hi guys... sorry for the TMI...

I'm 10 weeks pregnant today and I've noticed when I go to the bathroom there's a smell that I've never really had before. I thought UTI but I have no burning/other symptoms of one. I was wondering if an odour is normal at this point?

I am on progesterone pessaries twice a day so, inserting those can cause a UTI however I had a round of antibiotics a few weeks ago and a pee sample done maybe a week ago and nothing came back. Is it worth going back to the go to check? Can UTIs cause any harm to the baby?

Thanks ladies xxx

There can be a lot of changes during pregnancy due to hormones so if the smell is just different, I wouldn’t be too worried. But it shouldn’t ever smell offensive.

Best to get it checked. UTI can definitely to harmful to pregnancy. They will test you every midwife appointment because of this.

yes a UTI can, but they test often for these, as the above poster says, hormones can change the way you smell, but also, the hormones can make your sense of smell stronger, so things can smell different to you, weird huh?!

As pp said, pregnancy can really heighten your sense of smell so you just become super sensitive to it all!
I find the smell of urine really strong and pungent now to the point it can make me physically wretch, body odour as well.... I'm becoming obsessive about showering multiple times a day.

If you've had a UTI its worth maybe giving another sample, as they can linger and some people can have difficulty fighting them off. Also progesterone pessaries can mess with your natural flora and fauna 'down there', so it could be possible you have a bit of a yeast infection etc. I'd maybe ask your GP and see if they can take a swab just to check for your own reassurance
