Neurotic Husband Here - Early Pregnancy Advice

Hi,

Can't believe I've finally made it on here! Anyhow, long story short, my wife and I have been trying for IVF for a year. First attempt failed, but we had good news last weekend of a positive test result, and tested 2 days later, and a week later and still positive. So very exciting.

However, my wife has been saying she's having period-like cramps in one side for a few days, and Dr Google said this was normal. However, me being the neurotic one in the household searched NHS and I started seeing things like ectopic pregnancies and I'm starting to overthink.

So, any advice on how to look out for things? I don't want to be constantly asking how she feels etc, but obviously want to be sure she's OK and that these cramps are most likely to be expected.

It's tough having to keep quiet and refrain from discussing with friends and fam at this stage, hence my posting here :)

Thanks for your help!

When I was newly pregnant I was worried about absolutely every little twinge. I had cramps on each side, cramps in the middle, all kinds of sensations that made me sure I was miscarrying or had an ectopic pregnancy.

Now my pregnancy didn’t end in an ectopic so I don’t know exactly what that feels like but after my miscarriage I felt so silly that I thought these little twinges were something wrong. My miscarriage cramps were painful. Incredibly so. There was no mistaking it.

I really hope your pregnancy goes well and your anxiety eases. It’s not easy, I was incredibly anxious the whole time I was pregnant. All 10 weeks of it. Ironically, if I am ever lucky enough to be pregnant again I imagine my anxiety will be very different.

Thanks everyone for the replies. TBH my anxiety only really kicked in today which is why I posted. Let's just go with the flow as there's a long road ahead!

Men have a right too!

What right? Serious question. Emotionally involved? Yes. Right to tell women what to do with their bodies? No.

He is t telling her what to do. He is on here asking for advice because he is worried about his wife. For goodness sake. I thought people would think this was so lovely for a man to actual care enough to write this post !!! Giving Al the stories of useless bastard on here isn't this a nice change ? Some people are so horrible.

Op. Just watch out for sever pain and or bleeding. Straight to the hospital if this happens. You could pay for an early scan to check the baby is growing in the womb and not the tubes. Good luck.

I had similar pains with my natural pregnancy several years ago and am currently pregnant following IVF. I’ve had these pains in this pregnancy on one side and with the extra scans etc before being discharged from the fertility clinic the consultant confirmed I had a cyst/ enlarged follicle on one ovary which was probably the corpus luteum on the side where I’m getting the pain. This is probably the follicle which was measuring the biggest before my egg collection. It’s all normal and nothing to cause any concern. I was worried about it being ectopic before the scan and had been advised by my consultant that there was a higher risk of ectopic following IVF.
