My DD had this in her last pregnancy, and she was induced at 35 weeks as her liver wasn't happy. Baby was small, 5lbs but did well and didn't need any form of help other than observation for 48 hours. DD stopped itching within 6 hours and her liver function returned to normal fairly quickly.

She found the menthol aqueous cream was the most helpful cream she could use especially on the soles of her feet and her hands.

Hi, both my DC are adults now, so things may have moved on. I'm pretty certain they won't let you go full term, due to the risks. I was induced at 37 weeks with both and was taking ursodeoxycholic acid, as my LFT were extremely high...they stopped telling me in the end. Piriton didn't help at all with the itching, but cream with menthol in did. Keeping cool was they only thing that really helped with the itching. Cool showers, soaking my feet in cold water and using a fan. You have my sympathy, as I know how exhausting it is, being kept awake with the itching.

@Loopzy yeah they give me some cream but seems no better I have tried aloe Vera too , I am not getting much sleep as it feels someone just tickling me all over ha ,the consultant did say she will start me off at 37 weeks but that when levels were 23 now 41 so probably get started off sooner well I hope at least then no more itching and can nap ha x

I had it , the only thing that gave relief was aqueous cream with menthol crystals added (mixed by the pharmacist).

@Drippycandle can you go pharmacy and ask them for some with a maternity certificate or do u pay ? Or do you go through doctors cuz if so I'll be waiting until next year for an appointment 😂

just ask at a pharmacy and see if they’ll do it for you, it doesn’t need a prescription. probably somewhere like boots, ask to speak to the pharmacist but it’s a cheap preparation to buy over the counter.

I had this in my last pregnancy, he was born at 37 +2 after a sweep. My bile salts were something like 120 - def over 100. I forget.
I was on urso - made no difference - I found real aloe vera gel helped a little.

Once baby was born the itching stopped almost straight away.

WiseDog · 25/08/2024 18:58

Wishing you lots of love and luck. My cholestasis baby is a big healthy teenager now x

I've had this with both of my boys and now on my third pregnancy.

They always induce early and I have to say that despite all the meds, the itching never stopped 🥺

Both my boys were born at 37 weeks weighed 8lb, and other than the OC they were both very healthy!

Please don't worry too much! The end is in sight! The symptoms also went away pretty much straight after birth with both for me and that applies to most people, so there's that to look forward to!
