I’m 12 weeks pregnant. I started bleeding last night, quite a bit or bright red blood with a big clot. It was quite weird as it happened after I had a big coughing fit.
Nothing over night but there was still a bit of red blood this morning when went to the loo. I rang the EPU who wouldn’t see me, they told me to go to A&E if the bleeding gets worse and if it doesn’t to do a pregnant test in a week to see if I’m still pregnant, if it’s still positive and I’m still bleeding then they will scan me.
I’m beside myself with worry, nothing like this happened in my first pregnancy.
Does anyone have any advice on what else I can do? Do I just sit and wait to see if the bleeding gets worse?
We has an early scan last week and there was a heart beat and baby was measuring correctly which I’m trying to focus on but I’m so scared.

It's ridiculous epu won't see you tbh!!! They absolutely should!! I would go for an emergency private scan of I was you I couldn't wait it out x

I'm so sorry EPU had such a shocking response, but I'm not surprised, as I've had the same. I've had 2 bleeds earlier on and I'm currently almost 35 weeks pregnant and all is going well. I'd urge you to get a private scan, if you can, just for peace of mind x

I bled at 12 weeks just days after my scan. Maternity hospital admitted me and said I had probably lost the baby.

Baby is now 22 and a strapping young man. Dont give up hope

What EPU said that?! No don’t take that as an answer. Go to A&E or walk into your EPU!!!! Do it as early as possible as sonographer might not be there all day. I’m shocked they said that. EPU near me you can walk in and self refer yourself, yes you may be waiting long but if you show them how worried you are with the bleeding then you will be seen! I would walk into a&e or EPU if I was you xxx

Hi op
have you had your initial 12 weeks scan? If so EPU should absolutely see you. They are funny before 12 week scan but if you’ve had it you should be seen. If you are up to it I would just go straight there and make a fuss until you are seen. If you go there you’ll probably get a different member of staff to the one on the phone and in person it would be more difficult for them to be so rude and dismissive.

I had this a few weeks ago at 10 weeks. I phoned out of hours who recommended monitoring blood loss by checking or changing a pad every hour. If it got worse go to a and E and to speak to epu the next morning.
I spoke to the epu the next morning and it had lessened at that point. They offered me a scan that morning but I didn't have any child care so arranged it for the following morning. That afternoon the bleeding got heavy so I went to a and E where they did some blood tests to measure my HCG and haemoglobin levels. Had I not had a scan booked they would have arranged one. The following morning I had the scan as arranged and unfortunately for me there was no sign of pregnancy and I must have miscarried the day before. They repeated the HCG blood levels and I have had regular tests since then at first every 48h and then every week. My levels started at 17000 and now after 17 days they are down to 20. I have been instructed to take a pregnancy test in a week (3 weeks post miscarriage) to check it's negative and if not they will do another blood test. I would highly surprised if your HCG levels could drop to negative pregnancy test levels from 12 weeks in a week. They should half every 2 days.

I think I would probably have a very low bar for going to a and E or phoning the epu back if anything remotely gets worse or doesn't improve. If things don't get worse see your GP on Monday morning..

Hopefully it's not bad news, out of 3 pregnancies that have bleeding only 1 results in miscarriage so numbers are on your side.

Thanks all , stressful day.
I went to the EPU they literally refused to see me said they had no appointments and said I had to go to A&E and they’d assess whether I needed to go back to the EPU if it was an emergency.
While this was going on my husband managed to book a last minute private scan which was an hour away.
They scanned me and baby is ok and measuring exactly where it should be and moving around however she said I have a haematoma.
It’s close to the baby but she said it’s not in the sac the baby is in. She said to expect a bit more bleeding which I’ve been having this afternoon. At this stage it shouldn’t harm the baby and it should just bleed out or reabsorb. She was really shocked EPU wouldn’t see me. Still quite worried as still bleeding but praying it stops soon and there’s nothing that impacts the baby.

Glad all is ok with baby and you got seen by someone! Your epu is absolutely awful!!

I'm glad you have got some good news. I would have a low bar for going to a and E to get checked over if anything changes. Hopefully things continue to stay positive for you! X
