Hi all,

im expecting my second baby. Currently 8 weeks pregnant. My mind has gone blank and can’t remember my first trimester last time. I haven’t had my first appointment with midwife yet but I’ve been experiencing like watery brown discharge and some cramping? Not had this before so I’m a little worried about it.

has anyone experienced this?

thank you 😊

It might be worth giving the local epu and if they aren't open out of hours.

I had this a few weeks ago at 10 weeks although it quite quickly went red. I phoned out of hours who told me to monitor the bleeding checking or changing the pad every hour to see if the bleeding was changing. If it got heavier and I was worried go to a and E and to call the epu in the morning.

I called the epu the next morning and it had been ok overnight. I was offered a scan that day but couldn't make it due to no childcare. I had it booked for the following morning. For me by the afternoon I had heavy bleeding and went to a and E who checked my HCG and haemoglobin. Had I been only spotting and not heavy bleeding they would have checked my urine for signs of infection. Unfortunately for me the scan the next day confirmed my pregnancy had ended.

Spotting in pregnancy is common, usually brown blood is less concerning and only approximately 1/3 of bleeding leads to miscarriage so a 2 in 3 chance that it's all ok.

Do give the midwife or epu a call and get some advice relevant for you. Given it's Friday i would try to call before they close.
