Hiccupping bump = colicky baby

Just wondering after something my Mum mentioned in conversation the other day - My bump is very hiccuppy and she says this means that we will be having a colicky baby - has anyone else heard of this? (Would like it to be wrong as you can probably imagine!)

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi, My bump used to hiccup every afternoon towards the end and she never had colic at all.

No guarantees but I hope this is what you wanted to hear!

colditzmum · 05/01/2005 14:19

Same here, lots of hicoughs, no colic. In fact he was the most placid baby ever.

Mirage · 05/01/2005 14:23

Not heard of this before.DD hiccupped almost continually & never had colic. She slept through at 9wks & has always been very easy going.

futurity · 05/01/2005 14:25

DS hicupped lots and had reflux but no colic...slept through at 10 weeks. This bump is currently hicuping as I type so hope he doesnt have reflux as well (but the sleeping through thing would be cool!)

Surfermum · 05/01/2005 14:33

I had a hiccuppy one too and dd wasn't colicky. She slept through from 5 weeks.

my bump hiccuped. baby no colic though, rarely cries.

does get hiccups alot though

walliamsbabysmum · 05/01/2005 14:57

Loads of hiccups (ds esp) and no colic from either of them. (Tons of heartburn, and 2 babies with loads of black hair tho'....for another thread perhaps?)

Catbert · 05/01/2005 15:04

Agree - first bump hiccoughed ALOT, second bump didn't. Neither was colicky.

Prettybird · 05/01/2005 15:15

Bump hiccuped a lot - but ds slept through from about 2 weeks! (!) He was and still is a very happy, conteneted baby. Never had colic.

He's now 4 and only occasionally gets the "hiccalops" (as he calls them).

MrsEvs · 05/01/2005 15:29

Same here, bump constantly had hiccups (any baby still gets them quite a bit), but has never been coliicky, in fact slept through from 3 weeks old

If anything from the replies on this thread it seems hiccupy babies sleep well!

bonym · 05/01/2005 18:28

Dd hiccoughed all the time - no colic at all.

Lonelymum · 05/01/2005 18:29

Mine all hiccupped a lot and I never experienced colic with them (four children)

maretta · 05/01/2005 18:33

Mine hiccupped constantly and was colicky.

I seem to be the exception though.

Twiglett · 05/01/2005 18:35

your mum is talking codswallop (sorry coddy)

old wives tale probably

no doubt she's been dangling rings over your tummy and everything

I heard that it means the baby's thriving.

Whatever. It's just something they do. No colic with my ds and he slept through from 9 weeks. very calm baby.

I thought hairy babies were supposed to cause the mother heartburn? All of mine had a full head of hair and I got the worst indigestion ever with all of them so that fits with mine.

Surfermum · 05/01/2005 19:55

Mine too. Everyone told me that my heartburn meant I would get a hairy one. I imagined giving birth to a monkey.

monkey · 06/01/2005 07:44

not me I hope lol.

my 3 have all been v. hiccuppy & I had terrible heartburn, but none were hairy, non were colicky & all slept well

pooka · 06/01/2005 11:10

My dd hiccuped all the time, and did have colic. But I also had terrible heartburn and she is still bald as a coot at 18 months. Fed up with people saying what a cheerful chappie she is!
