Gender scan - is it correct?

I’ve recently had a gender scan, I will attach the photo to this thread! Family keep telling me they think it isn’t correct and that it isn’t clear enough to determine if it is a boy.

I have had two boys already and their potty shots were completely different to this which is why I am also questioning it. I’m thinking could this possibly be an umbilical cord? I’ve never seen white lines in a boy scan like in this picture ..

Boy scans can have white lines, but I wouldn't be happy with that picture to be sure 100% tbh. Can you ask for rescan?

gamerchick · 20/08/2024 09:49

You can't tell from that picture OP.

Leaaaaaa · 20/08/2024 09:49

I’ve got scan booked for in a couple weeks time. This was a private scan that I paid for and when questioning it they said well we are 99.9% accurate. So kind of put me off using them again haha

Yeah I wouldn't be having that, you paid for it and they've given you a shit picture as confirmation which really doesn't confirm anything, I would be complaining for a rescan they've happily took your money x

It looks like a boy to me 😊

YouveGotAFastCar · 20/08/2024 10:17

I don't think that's as unclear as people are making out - you can pretty clearly see the testicles and penis. It's not the most in-focus picture, and I'm surprised they didn't save you a better one, but it doesn't look at all girly. There's no three lines visible.

If you're early on - 14 weeks or so - the downside tends to be that you can tell the gender but the photo quality is on the poorer side, compared to waiting until 16/18/20 weeks as everything is more pronounced.

They'll never say that they are 100% sure, for legal reasons. 99.9% is pretty confident.

HEIHEI23 · 20/08/2024 10:20

Just as a side note, we had the three lines on our scan and were told girl. A month later and he’s definitely a boy 😂 so lines can mean boy too!

StellaCruella · 20/08/2024 10:21

Looks like a boy to me - if you zoom in it's quite clear. How far along were you at time of scan?

sel2223 · 20/08/2024 10:47

I'm assuming the gender scan was actually a moving scan done by a qualified sonographer? I'm not saying they haven't made errors in the past but i'd imagine it's much clearer to see with a trained eye and a moving real time image than your family and friends looking at a blurry still photo?
When you were getting the scan, did they not point out to you what they were looking at on the screen to say Boy? With my DD, they were showing me in real time and it was very clear she was a girl but the pics weren't as clear.

Shibr · 20/08/2024 10:50

I would say boy as well - congratulations!!

In person it is even worse! I was just surprised as both my other boys looked identical but compared to this one is completely different - but ofc not going to get the same image every time!

I was 16 weeks for this pic, so for 16 weeks it’s a very poor picture and the one before this was even worse😂 this was as in focus as they could get

Oh yes ofc it was. This was the still from the scan I had. However they were literally over it for all of 20 seconds if that, didn’t take a very detailed look, took the still & just showed me it from the still. But then they are the professionals .. just what makes me even more uncertain is as I was walking out a couple was complaining to the receptionist that they got the gender wrong!

im certain it is a boy, but then again unsure as I’ve not seen a boy scan like this before.. the white bits etc but the gender scans I’ve had in previous pregnancies have been a lot better in focus.

Have you asked them to rescan, @Leaaaaaa? I think if you've got concerns on the quality of the scan, that's reasonable. It does look like a really old machine.

I do think it's very likely to be a boy, it looks very male, but you paid for a gender scan to get rid of any doubt and they haven't done that.

That doesn't sound good at all - if you pay for a private gender scan then that's what you should get, not a 20 second moving image then the gender shown with a blurred still image.
When I had mine, they spent ages on it and were pointing at the screen showing me what was what.
I would complain and ask for money back or a rescan

Twinniesmummy · 20/08/2024 13:26

Hi! I’ve never posted on here before so not sure if I’m even doing it right or in the right chat! I’m dying to know the gender of my baby and trying to guess from early scans and I haven’t a clue, anyone good at this that can maybe have a guess? <3

Kiwi23 · 20/08/2024 20:19

I have 4 girls and I’d definitely say that’s a boy

Twinniesmummy · 20/08/2024 20:31

Kiwi23 oh wow really! Can I ask what makes you think so just out of curiosity? Because I have no clue what to look for 🙈 I have two girls already myself and I no couldn’t tell in their scans either! Haha
