When is best to go for an early scan? I don’t want to go too early but equally would like to get one before the NHS 12 week one

They will do them from 6 weeks but they recommend waiting until 7-8 weeks. At 6 weeks you risk not being able to see anything which will cause unnecessary worry. We waited until about 7 weeks 4 days and could see a clear baby and heart beat and we're having another one at just over 10 weeks. You'll read mixed opinions on early scans on this site, we found it helpful and reassuring to know that the baby was in the right place and okay even if only up until that point.

Apparently if you see/hear a heart beat and all is OK at 8-9 weeks then the chance of MC plummets. Obviously it doesn't guarantee anything but it's a massive positive so if you can wait till over 8 weeks then that will be better.

I am booked for a scan this week when I should be 8+1

I went for one at just under 10 weeks as my 12 week scan was booked for when I was 13 weeks. It was well worth it could actually see baby, and helped with the wait for my nhs scan!
