AIBU about dog scratch

Hi,

FTM here, 14 weeks pregnant, naturally an anxious person so i'm probably over reacting as usual.

My dog has a really bad ear infection which has spread to his cheek area, so has been to vets for injections, now he has to take medicine in 2 x tablet form for 7 days.

He's very clever and hates tablets, always manages to sniff/spit them out even if they're hid within chicken or sausage😅so while helping DH keep dog restrained to take tablet i got scratched on my hand by one of his claws.

It broke the skin slightly. Not bleeding but the skin is clearly broken. I've used a cleansing wipe to clean the wound.

Normally I wouldn't be fussed if pooch scratched me but he has an infection which is making me worry. Should I call GP or am i over reacting? Can i just use some savlon or other anti septic?

Thank you.

Personally I’d clean it and then leave it alone to heal. The more you fiddle with it and touch it, the more likely you are to introduce infection into it. Then keep an eye on it and if it starts to look infected (red, hot, pus) then I’d go to GP

Thank you for replying x I've left it as it is, will just keep a close eye on it this weekend😊

My cat scratches me every few days, I've never worried because it's never bled. Just keep an eye and get it checked if it looks like it's got infected.

It'll be fine but your anxiety is completely understandable.

FWIW I find a spoon of crunchy peanut butter works best for sneaking meds in, it's already textured and its such a strong flavour.

No joke, i make my dog a mini cheese sandwich to get tablets in 🤣🤣🤣 down in one swallow.

oh and the scratch will be fine.
