so tell me if by 35 weeks you are really sick of pregnancy - is it ACTUALLY possible to

book yourself in at the Portland - cough up your 5k and have a 36 week section?

A friend told me that a mutual friend did this recently but i cannot believe it..

Don't celebs do this as they don't want to put on the exrta weight most women out on in the last month of pregnancy?

let's hope that the baby was big and healthy enough and didn't have to spend time in an incubator.

I wonder how the woman is finding recovering from a c-section as compared to pregnancy?

I have to say I would be sorely tempted to do this if had the money.... but then with my first pregnancy I was two weeks overdue, had a hideous induced labour and ended up with an emergency c-section courtesy of the NHS. A horribly traumatic experience, which I don't wish to repeat. The surgery was the easy bit! A nice calm planned c-section in a plush private hospital sounds perfect to me.

I can see why that may be preferable MrsK. But 36 weeks is technically premamture and some babies born at this stage really will not be ready.

36 weeks is what was quoted i am unsure if this was fact

i am just astounded and maybe naive in assuming you have to have some vague reason to get a section not just a big purse

I do think women should be aware of all the pros and cons before making a decision such as this. And then the decision should be up to her as to how she gives birth. (As long as the baby is full term).

I think 39 weeks would be a nice time to give birth for most women. I think elective c-sections are generally done at 38 or 39 weeks.

i would love one! naivity and the thought of pain free labour prevails over the horrors of afterwards but i am rubbish afterwards anyway!

from me too. From a developmental point of view, those extra weeks can make such a difference in the beginning. Mine was +10 days and so much perkier, smiley and fun from early on. Mind you, v.annoying that all my horrendo stretch marks pinged out from 40+ weeks, but actually a small price to pay.

My god this has to be wrong! I mean ds was only 6.15 and he was 2 weeks late, he'd have been tiny even at 38 weeks let alone 36!

I only got stretch marks in the last couple of weeks.

My SIL has several girlfriends who have done this for exactly those reasons. They didn't want to get to big or put too much weight on.

i know a lady who is a obs/gyn in austria and she says she gets requests like this all the time. she says she doesn't do it, but many others do.

actually went to see a portland consultant for a repair post dd and he said to me he recommends cesarians to all his patients as it's "the safest way to give birth". i was aghast.

he did do a good job of my surgery though and now i have a designer vagina (about to be blown to bits by another baby but hey...)

but, sadly, that is the attitude of a lot of consultants...
