Hi just wondering everyone else’s thoughts, currently pregnant with my 2nd and I had a scan at 28 weeks and she said baby was 3.5lbs and won’t see me again to 36 weeks, it just seems a really long time between the appointments and baby seemed quite big for only 28 weeks, I’m currently 31, leaning boobs & getting braxton hicks and the thought of waiting another 5 weeks to be seen again just feels a really long time, I assumed I would definitely be seen again between that like with my 1st.
just wondering was anyone else’s the same thanks!

Are you in the UK? If so, what is the reason for the additional scans? Is it the same reason as with your first? You'll have a midwife appointment between the scans I guess - can you ask her then?

Hi, I was the same with my baby and scans were very far apart so we booked a private one in between the hospital scan. Would that be an option for you?

Lostworlds · 08/08/2024 22:40

If you’re in the UK and they have no concerns then they don’t offer anymore scans and may do another one at 36 weeks to make sure baby is in the correct position.
You can speak to your midwife who will hopefully reassure you but the only other option is to pay for private scans if you can afford them.

No midwife appointment either at all between the scans and yes in NI

Hi yes I’ve done private scans also in between like gender, 4D etc but my reasoning for maybe thinking I should have another scan at 34 weeks would be to have them check baby’s weight again and maybe talk about birth choices etc as I have no midwife appointment between either

Oh okay I see! I don't see why you wouldn't have at least a midwife app between that? In Ireland you have midwife every second week and GP on the week you don't see midwife after 32ish weeks

Yeah I’m in Northern Ireland and with my first I did but this time at my 28 weeks she said oh baby’s measuring 3.5lb ( which to me at that point is bloody massive !! ) and won’t see me again to 36 weeks I’m baffled, I feel like I should phone and ask to be seen sooner?

I had a scan a couple of days ago at 32+3 and baby was weighing 4lbs 4oz and they were very happy with that saying it was in normal range etc, so I can't imagine your baby is particularly big? X

GreenFlamingo11 · 10/08/2024 10:47

That sounds ridiculous, you should be seeing the midwife at least every second week at this stage. Definitely call and find out.

Casuallydresseddeepinconversation · 15/01/2025 07:12

Why did you have a scan at 28 weeks? We have dating scan 11-13 weeks then anomaly scan 20-22 weeks, you see the midwife a few more times with ur first, I'm having my third I had booking at 11 weeks then next appt was 18 ish, then 28 then next is 34 but have only had the 2 NHS scans

sel2223 · 15/01/2025 10:33

I know from my first in England there were a few extra appointments that you got in your first pregnancy compared to second.
Also, the standard here is only 12 and 20 week scans, nothing after those.

If high risk or other concerns then you may get additional scans and appointments but it's not guaranteed and they will decide how many extra scans and when you should have them.

Some people choose to pay for private scans inbetween for their own piece of mind

sel2223 · 15/01/2025 10:36

Did they say what percentile your baby was on at the 28 week scan?
There's normally only a concern if under 10 or over 90
