When to test?

Hi everyone. The first day of my last period was 8th July and my next one was due on 3/4 August, however I did have unprotected sex on 28 July. My period is now 3/4 days late and I have done a couple of tests which have all been negative. Im just wondering though if it is too early to be accurate,as although my period is late, its actually only 10days since I had sex

Thanks

If you are 4 days late for your period then you’d have a positive test OP. It doesn’t matter when you had sex, what matters is when you ovulated. Assuming a typical cycle if your last period started 8th July you’d have ovulated around the 22nd/23rd July, meaning that when you had sex you were already 5 days past ovulation and out of your fertile window. The egg only has 12-24 hours to be fertilised, so by the 28th it would have been too late. X

Ok thank you, thats very helpful. I did think the result would be accurate but just doubting myself! I did have quite a bad uti earlier on in my cycle so maybe that has just messed it up a bit!

I cant help but worry, I have a headache and lower backache and a little bit of cramping. I also had a bit of spotting this morning. I have had another negative test this morning but lots of stuff im reading online is saying it is still too soon for an accurate test

What you will find online is that you test from the date of ovulation, not from the date you had sex. It’s not the date you had sex that matters, it’s the date you ovulated. You cannot fall pregnant if there is no egg there.

But I could have ovulated late though?

You could have, but if you typically have a 28 day cycle then it’s very unlikely you would have ovulated a week late.

Ok thank you. Sorry I know your probably right but my mind is just going overtime

That’s not necessarily true. I ovulate around week 3 of my cycle which would actually be when she had sex (if she were the same as me). OP do you know when you ovulate? It’s unlikely but not impossible that it’s just too early to test!

bravotango · 08/08/2024 14:38

I ovulated a week late during my 28 day cycle and fell pregnant, but I tested positive a few days after my missed period so I would say your negative is negative. You could order some 10mg super early tests that are designed to test before your missed period to be sure but I'd say you're probably not pregnant

No I dont track when I ovulate🙈 all I have to go by is the flo app which said ovulation on the 20th but I know that might not be correct

Hi Ladies..so I had a bit of blood when I wiped yesterday, two or three different times. Thought it might have been AF starting but it has stopped again. Now im worried it may be implantation bleeding? Although I have just had another negative test this morning

hi@Suzie87 I hope you are well. Just wondering if you tested again or af came? I am only one day late but been cramping for a while so suspect af anytime and I have been late on the odd ocassion. I think I may have ovulated a bit later this month.
