What to ask the doctor

Hi everyone.

I'm 26 weeks pregnant and so far have not met, seen or heard from my midwife. I've had two scans (both a different hospitals) and two doc appointments (again at two different places - one hosp and one surgery), so have never seen the same person twice.

I now have a doctors appointment this afternoon (my midwife unavailable yet again) where I hope I will get my MATB1 form.

Because I know this is probably going to be the only appointment I have in a while, I wanted to ask all the questions I need to while I can. Trouble is, my mind is a blank!!!

What sort of questions should I be asking at this stage (apart from "when the hell am I going to meet my midwife??!!")?? Should I be asking if I am growing enough? Which way the baby is lying etc etc??

Can anyone help? Sorry, first time pregnancy and no contact with a consistent midwife has got me all confused!

What a poor state of affairs. I'm really angry for you tbh. A GP does not have the expertise that a mw does.

The GP should check your wee sample and blood pressure, if the surgery has a doppler they will listen to the heartbeat. Also if the GP knows what to look for they will check your fundal height.

They may check the position of the baby, but tbh it doesn't really matter at the moment.

I would really stamp your feet about not seeing a midwife yet. Maybe ask if there is another team of mw's you could be transferred to?

Must remember to take a wee sample then!
I will def ask about the midwife as it is worrying me a little.

blood pressure should be checked

urine should be checked for sugar and protein

fundal height should be assessed

foetal heart should be listened to

lie of the baby assessed

and definitely ask when you are seeing the MW!!

Perhaps they have booked you in for GP-led care rather than MW-led care? It does happen sometimes. You should definitely bring this up with your GP.
