Massive weight gain first trimester!

I'm 11 weeks and have put on almost a stone, I have no idea how. I have terrible sickness and am on anti sickness meds. But I can't keep an actual decent meal down, I am being violently sick at least 6 times a day whilst on the meds.

Alls that stays down are crisps, apples, jam on toast. I've no idea how I can have put so much on. The midwife said it was normal on Monday but since Monday I've gained another 5 pounds! Has anyone had this before? I genuinely have no idea where it's coming from, I am showing and I look pregnant.

With my DS I started to show early but not this big and only gained a few pounds in the first trimester.

Hmm I put on 4-5 kgs so under a stone in my first trimester, still over what is "normal". I was pretty sick and all I could eat was pure pure carbs and jam, so I reckon the calories were actually adding up. Plus carbs make you retain a lot of water.

Honestly, do what you need to survive and don't feel bad. The first trimester is traumatic.

It could be the effect of water retention and slowed down bowel movements.

Try not to worry about it, it might even out throughout the pregnancy.

I'm the same! Have hyperemesis (though FINALLY under control down to Ondansetron) and literally put on 10 pounds. All I could eat was toast, McDonald's chicken selects and pizza really so suspect a lot of water retention. I'm not worried, I'm sure midwives will flag if it's a concern and tbh when you're that sick, you just have to do what you can!

Another here who put on 20kgs over the whole pregnancy 😖 and had HG. I could only really eat things like toast, brioche, croissants for first trimester. I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight within 3 months and I did nothing to lose it. I think lots was water retention (and baby obvs!)

This make me feel so much better. I've just got to eat what I can and it's literally crisps and McDonald's burgers at the moment nothing else.

Im hoping the sickness will ease, but with my son it never.

If you are slim you will likely put in a noticeable amount. I was 53-54kg at the start of pregnancy and by 12 weeks I was already about 60kg. I’ve not weighted myself but I see myself in the mirror and I look like a right whale at 36W.
a lot of it is water, your blood volume increases by 50% and quite frankly your body will start storing extra fat for breastfeeding.
Some bodies store more, some store less. I happen to be one of them gainers, even though I’ve been physically active through my pregnancy, I still attend gym and I never had the burgers and fries phase. I’ve been eating healthy food.
