So at 30 weeks I was measuring 2 weeks behind on fundle height sent for a scan and baby has dropped from 35th to 12th centile

I'm 32.4 today and my sister has measured me. (Nurse) and I'm 30 weeks fundle I've got growth scan next week again then consaltant day after.

Placenta is fine

What's going wrong and if baby is still small by next week what will consaltant say!!

Anxiety is annoying me

You're not doing anything wrong, fundal height is notoriously inaccurate. I was measured by the same midwife in the same appointment twice and one measurement was 29 weeks and the other was 27 weeks.

Agree with previous poster, honestly it’s pointless your sister measuring it unless she is always going to measure it because different people could measure it 2 seconds apart and get different results, the same person could even get 2 different measurements. I had a different midwife for my appointment at 34 weeks who measured me and sent me for an urgent growth scan as she measured me as suddenly 3 weeks behind. I went through for my scan and my usual midwife was there and quickly measured it while I waited because I was obviously really stressed by this, by her measurement baby was exactly as it should be following my growth line and the growth scan confirmed that.

Lots of places don’t even bother with fundal measurements anymore because they are so widely known to be inaccurate.

Try not to worry OP and good luck!

Fundal height is very hard to measure accurately.

Thanks 😊 what could be slowing weight down with the scans? On a scan he's dropped in weight to x

All babies are different, trust the doctors to keep a check on that.

For what it’s worth though, the scans aren’t perfectly reliable either. On every growth scan I had I was warned I was going to have a huge big baby, they said on my 37 week growth scan that she was already over 9lb and that I should expect her to be nearly 11lb born, they wanted to induce me even because she was measuring so big, told me not to bother with newborn clothes because she’d be straight into 0-3 at her birthweight.

She was born 1 day before my due date at 7lb 13! X

Just relax. You aren't doing anything wrong. The scans and the measurements aren't 100% reliable. I was told told my DC would be small she was 7lbs 8 and didn't fit into newborn clothes. Just keep an eye on movements and wait for your next appointment. Any changes in movement get yourself to maternity triage.

Weight guesses are inaccurate also

TheShellBeach · 04/08/2024 14:19

Scans are frequently really out with their estimations, too.
